This is a joke, of course, since the former president of Mexico is ineligible.  He's a funny guy and has been trolling Trump for months.  Now he has a campaign site and an introductory video.

The video is about 5 minutes long and slightly NSFW, but it's hilarious! (except possibly to Trump fans)

According to Wikipedia, his great-grandfather was born in Ohio. Would his grandfather and father be citizens?

Jus sanguinis doesn't transmit that far.

Also, doesn't this guy have better things to do than just being a troll? This is embarrassing behavior for a former head of state.

Even if he was a citizen, he wouldn't meet the 14-year residency requirement.

He's pretty conservative (yes Mericans, conservatism exists outside of Alabama and Somalia), so endorsed!

How many generations after a US citizen has a child born in another country does the citizenship terminate?

Ex. I've heard that the descendants of American Mormons who settled in Mexico in the 19th century are still considered US citizens.

It's much more embarrassing when done by our current head of state. (Ours isn't half as clever or funny, though.)

The law has changed a lot over the years. In those days, jus sanguinis citizenship would've only transmitted through a citizen father, as was the case with most countries, and there was at least a 10-year residency requirement for the father. There was also a residency requirement for the child in order to retain citizenship as an adult. The latter has been abolished, but there is still a residency requirement for a US citizen parent to transmit citizenship by blood to a child born abroad. Fox's grandfather might've been a US citizen at birth but he would've forfeited his nationality as an adult due to the laws of the time, and even if he didn't, he would not have been eligible to transmit citizenship to Fox's father because he wouldn't have met meet the residency requirement.

That's how George Romney, born in Mexico to such parents, was eligible.

The first presidential candidate I ever supported. Smiley

That was some top quality trolling. I usually cringe when politicians attempt things like this, but Fox pulled it off rather well.

Fox is just trying to rebrand himself and improve his domestic and international image following his awful Presidency in Mexico. He may be enjoyable as a troll, but as a person he's awful. It's amazing how many people are willing to overlook a person's background if they simply check the anti-Trump box.

Come on man. The guy's been out of office for, what, about ten years? Is he seriously about to run for office again at age 75? Yeah, he wasn't exactly a great president, but that shouldn't cause one to overlook that these videos are in fact spot on satire, and possibly the best ever done by a major politician with the possible exception of Paul wellstone initial campaign run commercials.

By the way, while I understand standards are different between Mexico and the United States, don't forget Fox is actually very much on the conservative wing of Mexican politics. He won the presidency running to the right of the PRI which is, very Loosely to find and ignoring the fact they're basically an Institutional patronage party, Center Right. The dude has a lifetime of corporate management an extensive personal ties with the United States including being educated at Harvard Business School. He should be the last guy in Mexican politics to be slamming Trump considering they run in the same basic wealthy corporate circles. The fact he is makes it all the more needling to Trump I'm sure. Or at least it's more amusing to me.

Because he doesn't have to be eligible in order to run.
