An observation

In spite of the fact that Democrats receive 90% of the black vote while Republicans receive 10% of the black vote

Both Republicans and Democrats have 50% of the black Senators

Just sayin'

Wasn't there a brief period of time between Mo Cowan's departure upon Markey's election and Booker's election that GOP actually had 100% of black Senators?

In any case, unrepresentation of African American in the Senate is a disgraceful.

There's huge underrepresantion of minorities and women in the Senate. Hopefully we move closer to more representative numbers in time.

Democrats rarely nominate black candidates because they are still scared of the Bradley effect. As for how Scott got elected well my family is from Charleston and many locals believe the whole primary was orchestrated by the RNC. My grandparents received 5-7 flyers in mail for that runoff and they're registered Democrats they have never received flyers from the GOP before.

Hate to burst your bubble but Democrats have Cory Booker and Kamala Harris while Republicans have Tim Scott.

Democrats have 66% of total black senators.

Edit: I cant believe no one has realized that by now.

Tim Scott is blacker than those two combined.

I thought South Carolina didn't have partisan registration.

Slight hyperbole, but I'm referring to Harris not being black and Booker's "barely blacker than white" DNA test.

Harris is half black, just like Obama. Both of Booker's parents are black.

Hmm. I would not mind having 9 black Democrats for every black Republican in the Senate. Maybe that can stop this disparity.

Strictly speaking, Kamala Harris is half black.

Kamala totally uses a 100-level shade of foundation (Sand to Sand-Clay for fans of MAC)

Strictly speaking, Kamala Harris is half black.
And Strictly speaking, so is Barack Obama. Try this as an experiment. Ask 1000 Black people whether they consider Barack Obama black or not, then come here and post the results.

I realize Barack Obama is half black.

Kamala Harris is half Tamil and half black.

Therefore, she could just as well be called the first Tamil Senator. (that I am aware of)

Regardless, even if you include Kamala Harris as 16.5% of black senators in the USA(which is effing stupid because its not up to us) it still makes the basis of this thread wrong.

Unless the basis of this thread is meant to indicate 100% black Senators.

Than that's effing stupid and borderline offensive. You don't get to determine what mixed race people identify as. Kamala Harris identifys as black, there for she is black. Barack Obama identifys as black, there for he is black.

Unless the basis of this thread is meant to indicate 100% black Senators.

So you don't consider Blanche K. Bruce, Hiram Revels, or Frederick Douglass black.  Got it.

What are you saying?

Majority of the black electorate live in the Safe R south. The only states in the former Confederacy that could potentially send a D candidate to the Senate are too racially polarized to put up a black candidate (FL, NC, VA). Yes I know Obama won all of these states at least once but state races are different from presidential ones.

I will never understand how Tim Scott can identify and associate with the party that is now screaming white supremacy. That's like me as a gay man joining the American Family Association.
