This attitude is literally why we do not have a Democrat president right now. Smugness and condescension. Abortion is a very nuanced issue and will continue to polarize the electorate.

Because it is the most important issue facing our country.

Why? In countries like the UK, Germany, France, and Australia, abortion is completely a non issue.

If you'd ACTUALLY READ THE THREAD you'd see why saying that is very silly

Many Republicans still believe in the certainty of he New Serfdom that will guide Americans to salvation through righteous suffering in obedience to God and the Master Class in a grim, dreary, joyless world. In such a world, sex is only for reproduction.

Sometimes I wish more pro-life people were circumcised vegetarians who had beards, abstained from alcohol and caffeine, but smoked marijuana and burned incense.

I don't like abortion, should strongly be discouraged and people given every opportunity to not do it (adoption, etc) but it's also amusing to tell Republicans it's freedom to allow it and you're taking away people's freedom to ban it. Makes their heads explode.

Again, without some sort of compromise that almost no one would really like, this is going to almost always be an issue in a unified United States.

And even then, it would only go away if it became illegal to talk about the issue.

You mean that literally, seriously (where abortion became a really fringe topic), or both?

If we follow abortion case law where it's safe, legal, and rare until viability that is probably the closest thing to consistent.  I find abortion abhorrent but also believe black markets would be worse.  But no taxpayer should be forced to subsidize it either.

Abortion is an issue where they simply dangle the carrot in front of their base to keep them in line year in and year out. Abortion will never be illegal in America for this very reason.

If you looked at any of my other posts it would seem pretty clear that this is straight sarcasm

Then use this. "Roll Eyes".

This wasn't in reply to you; but the person that replied to you, hence why I quoted them.

because it is one of those visceral issues that bring out the one-issue voters. See also "gun control".

Abortion rates and economic distress go hand-in-hand, so the most practical way in which to reduce abortion is to have a stronger economy. Gun control? Democrats like Carter, Clinton, and Obama didn't do it. (It's ironic that the George W. Bush administration forced gun control upon Iraq... )
