To be fair, Kubrick didn't make that many movies, whereas Nolan'll probably go for awhile, so this was bound to happen.

That said, it's still sad that the master of over-exposition and anachronic order is ahead of someone who actually did genuinely different things each time, especially at this point.

The Killing is a better movie than anything Nolan has made.

So far, Nolan has made only ten movies, while Kubrick had made 13. Which means 54% of all of Kubrick's movies are in the IMDb Top 250, while 80% of Nolan's movies are.

I mean, only 18 of the movies in the top 50 of that list were made before 1990.  It's a list that's heavily skewed towards movies made within the lifetimes of the people voting.  So not really specific to Nolan or Kubrik.  Just a general bias towards films from the last 30 years.

Nolan is a horrible director. I hated the Prestige, Inception, and Interstellar (all of which had reasons to do with his treatment of his women characters), and the Dark Knight was nothing special. Memento is his only half-decent film. Dunkirk I haven't seen, but since there are no women in it, it may well be good.

This. Like im pretty sure the last time I read their rankings, How to Train Your Dragon was ranked as a better movie than There Will Be Blood and the Wizard of Oz.

Both are great filmmakers. This would only be an outrage if it was Michael Bay with more than either.

In any case, I don't take a lot of what IMDB (aside from movie credits) has at face value.

Nolan makes good genre films, but the consistency of his past hits have led to a cult of personality among fanboys that massively inflates everything else. For example, I find comparisons of Interstellar to 2001 to be patently absurd, as well as the argument that Dunkirk belongs on the top shelf of war movies.
