Joseph McCarthy shockingly wins the GOP nomination against Dwight Eisenhower and faces President Harry S. Truman in the GE. Who wins?

I think most GOPers would have Truman in 1952, but McCarthy may be just too radical.

McCarthy's favorability rating was still decent at this time (it wouldn't plummet until AFTER Ike's election) so I think he could win. I don't think the GOP would've been dumb enough to nominate him though...they had lost five straight elections and so their nominee's "electability" was a major concern.
