Grammar nazi note: the description of the bill should read "enacted" and "clearer" instead of "in acted" and "more clearer." The second "enact" is also redundant. It's also worded in a really strange fashion. I could clean it up tomorrow when I have a little time, but if someone wants to do it now, that'd be great too.

About the bill: I like the idea of setting some standards for deregistration and subsequent re-registration. I think 60 days is a little lengthy, though. I'd prefer 30.

I echo R2D2's sentiments.  I'll propose an amendment that will fix the grammar errors (which, under a very liberal interpretation of the Senate rules, I could probably fix without an amendment as long as it doesn't alter the intent of the bill, but that's for another discussion) and cut the re-registration time to 30 days.

By the way, this bill reminds me of the Deregistration Waiting Period Act that we passed in August but has yet to be taken up by the House.  Hopefully we can get Congress to settle both these questions before the October elections.

I support the amendment. I think we should be as welcoming as we possibly can, but there really needs to be some deterrent for deregistering. People should at least have to think about it a little before pulling the trigger. I feel like sometimes people deregister to make a statement or even to passive aggressively try to make someone feel bad after having an argument, and that soap opera stuff is definitely not one of the things that I love about Atlasia. So I think 30 days is fair.

I wonder if we should add some requirement for the RG to make a post making sure everyone actually knows about the deregistering policy. Not sure if anyone actually reads the first page of the new register thread... and it might be tricky to edit because the OP isn't even the current rg.  But yeah... food for thought.

I accept the corrections in red print suggested by the PPT. I also have no objections against shortening the 60-day waiting period down to 30.

As you all may have seen, I have sponsored this amendment on behalf of Progressive Democrat.

The main reason why I support it is simple: It makes the RG's life a lot easier if people can't deregister at a whim and then reregister immediately afterwards.

Sensible bill to me. I agree with my colleagues here that 30 days is more reasonable than 60.

One possibility for more exposure is that someone like Truman can edit the registration info in his Introduction to Atlasia thread. That would be difficult to legislate since he doesn't have an official government role to maintain that thread (unless we wanted to do that now), but it would at least be a good gesture should this become law.

That's a good idea. We could keep a mental note to let him know should this get signed into law, or I guess we could include something about that in the language of the bill.

I would note that I am still rather dubious about having the process of deregistration, whether "real" or not.

I have seen too many people driven to extremes in the heat of the moment and then make decisions that they immediately regret later. It is also an invitation for trolls and bullies to try and drive people nuts as a means of "eliminating them" in a manner of driven to suicide by deregistration.

The game survived from 2008 until 2013 without the ability to deregister and people still found the means to be removed from the game (Bans, ceasing to vote and falling off the roles etc etc).

Should we take this to a final vote now? Seems like discussion has pretty much died.

Sorry.  Generally I prefer to wait for debate to cease before I bring something to a final vote.

I'll open a vote in 24 hours unless there's an objection.

On the other hand, with the ability to deregister people have a chance to avoid getting GOTV PMs if they find them annoying. Also, those involved in doing GOTV work don't waste even more time PMing voters who are never going to turn out anyway.

I like the fact that this bill offers a 48 hour period to revoke one's registration. So even if someone is bullied to leave the game, there will still be time to convince him/her to come back.
