I remember when I was in first grade I came up with the idea that the government could just eliminate poverty by printing a ton of money and giving every person a millon dollars. I actually thought this was a revolutionary idea.

I thought that most Americans were smart.

Now I question how most people are capable of feeding themselves without reliance on a tube.

I thought the solution to all our problems was to print enough money to give everyone $1 million and give all kids unlimited access to ice cream, pizza, and soda.

My middle brother, who has about as much political knowledge as a tire, told me that in the eighth grade when Donald Trump was thinking of running (2011), a kid in his class blurted out "when Donald Trump becomes President, everyone will be rich!" My brother replied "Will, it doesn't work that way."

Another good one is from my autistic youngest brother, who thanks to his education is able to sort of know who Trump is/what he does; he perceives the Presidency as being akin to being King. I think that's kind of adorable.

I was a Republican in 3rd Grade, and I rooted for Bob Dole to win the presidency.

I'm pretty sure my 6 year old answer for the war on terror was to let Afghanistan be the 51st state.

I had an idea - which I can't imagine would be much worse than your typical Gaddafi-style, figuring-it-out-on-the-fly country - that we should organize the government along some combination of Plato's Republic and syndicalism.

Recolonization of the Middle East.  America, Britain, and Israel would control different countries.  I think Greece was supposed to get something out of it too.

Basically I believed that the entire region should be conquered by the US, UK, Greece, and Israel.  They would bring freedom and Democracy to the region, and force secular government by gunpoint.  China and Russia would be invited along for the ride.

I was a unironic communist who believed that Barack Obama was Earth's best hope to prevent Bush's henchmen from beginning the New World Order.

I believed that the world was about to go through a period of de-unifying. Not only with Scotland or Catalonia gaining independence, but with Wessex and Castile becoming a thing again. This was also coupled with the idea that some countries would push irredentist claims. Hungary reclaiming it's old empire, Portugal invading Galicia, that sort of thing.

As a kid you were familiar with Plato's Republic and syndicalism?

Honestly, you could have gotten hired on as a national security adviser to Bush. You would have not done any worse than Cheney or Rumsfeld that's for sure.

Well, Bush was President when I had this idea, it was 2008.  I even tried to create a Civ IV scenario out of it.  The strange thing is that, while I held these views, at the same time I supported a withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The next year in history class I learned about the Shah of Iran and thought that he was one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century.
