Merkley is the kind of new face that MIGHT (if nominated) take Trump by surprise.  He struck me as poised and knowing what to say.  It's too early to tell if he's an empty suit, but Warren is Pocahontas, like it or not.  (That's a moniker, like "Lyin' Ted" that has stuck.)

Merkley has more appeal to anti-war people and while he hasn't led quite as much on Wall Street as Warren, he's as good as her there. However, gender and name recognition would likely win it for Warren.

Elizabeth Warren having private meetings with Jamie Dimon and other Wall Street bankers shows she's not as strong on Wall Street as we'd like her to be...
