1. When was the last time when the city was a  battleground of land warfare? 1573.
2. How Scots have influenced development of the city? Scottish carpenters rebuilt it after it was burnt down in 1573.
3. What is the biggest party in a city council? Social Democrats.
4. Tampere has 200 000 inhabitants. Why EU does consider that Tampere isn't a city at all? Lack of a city charter due to vagaries of Finnish municipality law.
5. How Lenin and Stalin (unfortunately) are part of history of the city? Both were banished there during the Tsarist reign.
6. How Syracusa, NY, and Tampere are linked with each other?
They are sister cities.

And yes, I guessed blind on all of them. Smiley

1) Completely wrong!

2) Wrong but better

3) Surprisingly wrong answer

4) Wrong

5) Partly right. They banished here, but it wasn't a point of the question.

6) Right

7) The answer is very different than answer of the previous question.

1. When was the last time when the city was a  battleground of land warfare?

I believe that was during the Russian Revolution.

4. Tampere has 200 000 inhabitants. Why EU does consider that Tampere isn't a city at all?

I believe this is because they divided its population into other areas denying it some status that would have brought EU money in or something.

5. How Lenin and Stalin (unfortunately) are part of history of the city?

They met each other for the first time there.

6. How Syracusa, NY and Tampere are linked with each other?

Sister cities.

7. How Manchester, England and Tampere are linked with each other?

Manchester is the "Tampere of the South", though most people would say Tampere is the Manchseter of the North.

Whoa, I know a bit too much about your city, me thinks.

You did

1) Right. 1918 exactly. It was during the Finnish Civil War what was one ugly result of Russian Revolution.
4) Wrong. Not Finnish style really!
5) Right
6) Right
7) Right. And this is because Tampere is one of most industrialized city in Finland like Manchester is in England. Tampere's nickname is Manse what comes from Manchester.

You can tell that from their logos, which I am looking for.

1. When was the last time when the city was a  battleground of land warfare?

1926, as part of the failed Lutefisk Hall Putsch.

2. How Scots have influenced development of the city?

Angry over the loss of Finland to the Soviet Badminton team in the 1972 olympics, Tampere banned vodka. It is now the largest importer of scotch in the Baltic.

3. What is the biggest party in a city council?

Libertarian National Socialist Anarcho-Syndicalist Progressive-Conservative Green.

4. Tampere has 200 000 inhabitants. Why EU does consider that Tampere isn't a city at all?

The mayor didn't fill out City Application Form 176Q this year.

5. How Lenin and Stalin (unfortunately) are part of history of the city?

They both spent the night there, resulting in a spite of Finnish hotels advertising 'Lenin Slept Here' and 'Stalin Slept Here'.

6. How Syracusa, NY and Tampere are linked with each other?

By the New York-Finland Tunnel, built by a wealthy and very eccentric madman named Erthel Von Stourbach during World War II as part of a failed Nazi plot.

7. How Manchester, England and Tampere are linked with each other?

By the TransEuropean Arctic Freeway, which runs from Manchester to Tampere via Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Orkney and Shetland Islands, and Scotland.

1. When was the last time when the city was a  battleground of land warfare?
In civil war

2. How Scots have influenced development of the city?
John Finnlayson

3. What is the biggest party in a city council?
SDP

4. Tampere has 200 000 inhabitants. Why EU does consider that Tampere isn't a city at all?
The imperialist Tampere people seized the peacefull parishes of Teisko and Aitolahti. Therefore the population density is not enough to be a city
5. How Lenin and Stalin (unfortunately) are part of history of the city?

Visited it in exile

6. How Syracusa, NY and Tampere are linked with each other?
7. How Manchester, England and Tampere are linked with each other?

The nick neme in Finnish for TAmpere is Manse

1. Right.
2. partly right. James Finlayson from Scotland built a factory and a power plant on Tammerkoski rapids in early 19th century which crucially increased growth of the city.
3. Wrong. Coservative Party (National Coalition or Kokoomus) has 20 seats while Social Democrats has only 18. Left parties altogether has mojority in the city council though.
4. Right and there weren't that peaceful. There are still guerilla activity left in Teisko's backwood. Wink
(Pakko oli laitta tuo silmänklikkaus, eihän sitä tiedä jos joku ottaisi tuon vaikka tosissaan. Turhaan Suomi-kuva huononesi. Vaikka täällä porukka on kyllä pääasiassa todella hyvin informoitua, minkä olet varmaan huomannutkin.) Smiley
5. Yes and met each other for the first time here.
7. Partly right. The nick name comes from Tampere's status as indrustial capitol of Finland.

Only part of Manchester is industrial (admittedly it's the overwhelming majority, but South Manchester (which isn't the furthest south part of the city; that's Wythenshawe) is a residential affluent area). But, yeah, the public image of Manchester has always been places like Gorton, Cheetham or Blackley.
Most industrialised city in the U.K is probably Sunderland... although it only became a city recently. Very blue collar, lots of the usual coastal heavy industries, big car factory (Nissan), used to be a couple of deep pits in the urban area itself (last one closed in the early '90's. The Stadium of Light was built on it's site).

You know, Quenya (or High-Elvish) is actually somewhat based on Finnish. Really.

That's true. Its "accent" sounds like Finnish a little bit, but there is no similar vocabulary. Scructures of language may be somewhat similar. I don't know details.

Finnish language is a challenge to anyone foreign person. Every word have numerous different forms which basically replace prepositions (words like to, for, in, on, by) in most Indo-European languages.

This is an example: talo (A house)

talo = a house
talon = a house's, of house
talossa = in a house
talolla = on a house or by house
talolta =from (outside of house)
talolle = to (outside of house)
talosta = from the house
taloon = to the house
taloa = this is impossible to translate directly. Smiley

And word HOUSES

talot
talojen
taloissa
taloilla
taloilta
taloille
taloista
taloihin
taloja

Who can claim that my language would be easy?

Does it have any basis in Latin by any chance?

Which one? Finnish or Quenya?

I don't know about Quenya. Tolkien called it as Elves Latin, but I think he meant that the status of language was like Latin in the modern world.

Finnish is not Indo-European language, but Finno-Ugrian lone like Estonian, Hungarian and many minority languages in Russia. So it is not linked with Latin.
