The main reason Ratzinger was the way he was before he bacame Pope was because it was his job to be the gate keeper.  As Pope, I think he will be more moderate and perhaps more willing to discuss change when it might be for the better.  For instance, he has already discussed the possability of allowing divorced and remarried Catholics to accept communion.

I've got to admit, Ratzinger would not have been my choice (quick, somebody name me cardinal so I really would have that choice).  Still, Benedict XVI is a far different pope than I though Ratzinger would be.  I thought we'd see a clamping down on dissent within the Church to an extreme and that has not happened.

I'm reasonably impressed so far, and that's coming from a non-Catholic.

Ratzinger would win because because Benedict is a bad name so he'd win all the stupid vote (55%).

Wasn't my first choice either.  I was a Schoenborn backer myself.
