Hurricane Katrina Relief Bill

Preamble
The purpose of this bill is to give aid to areas in the Southeast region affected by Hurricane Katrina.

1. The federal government approves $10 billion in immediate aid to be used in the effort to retrieve survivors, establish suitable living conditions, and provide for food, water, and general hygiene in areas in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi affected by Hurricane Katrina.

2. The federal fuel tax is suspended until October 10, 2005, effective upon the passage of this bill.

Sponsor: Sen. Ebowed

Although this bill is certainly urgent, it would be inappropriate to bring it up to a vote without debate. Hence, I'll keep it open for debate now; if there are no objections, then after 24 hours a final vote can begin.

Very well, as there is no debate, and assuming there is no objection to starting voting early:

The question is on final passage of the bill. All those in favor, say Aye; those opposed, say No.

With five Ayes, and one vacancy, the bill has enough votes to pass. Senators have 24 hours to vote or change their votes.

There have voted:

The Senate passes the bill unanimously. I present the bill to the President for his signature.
