You got that right!
Some of these questions are a bit odd:

12. Democracy (i.e., majority rule) is an inefficient, tyrannical, and hedonistic form of government.

And always referring to the collective?

I agree that some of the questions are a bit odd.

No. 8 combines "border control" (which I support) and a "planned population policy" which I oppose.

Also, the terminology of the ratings uses the european definition of "liberal" where Americans use the term "libertarian" to avoid the confusion of terms.

According to the rankings (with the caveats I have noted), they say I rank:

 #1.) Liberal
 #2.) Left-Wing Neo-liberal
 #3)  Right-Wing Neo-Liberal
 #4.) American Conservative
 #5.) Social-Liberal
 #6.) Liberal Nationalist
 #7.) Burkean (liberal) Conservative
 #8.) American "Liberal"
 #9.) Social Democratic
#10.) Christian Democratic
#11.) Anarcho-Communist
#12.) Marxist
#13.) Liberal Socialist
#14.) National Socialist
#14.) Facist
#16.) Revolutionary Conserviative/Monarchist
#17.) Soviet "Communist"
#18.) Christian Socialist

I also took the Presidential Preference test, and (surprise) prefered Bush to Kerry 82 to 35.

Another 'liberal' for Bush!  HeHe.

Um...you Americans are the ones confusing terms. Libertarians are neo-liberals and not comparable to European liberals.

Liberal comes from the word for freedom, liber, so the European usage is defnitely more correct. Smiley

No, libertarians are what can be called "classical liberals."  The modern "liberal" is better termed a neo-liberal, because its a new thing.

I'm actually pretty proud of my result. But I don't understand the term "left-wing neoliberal".

#1 Social-Liberal
#2 Left-wing Neoliberal (Clinton)
#3 Liberal
#4 American "Liberal"
#5 Social Democratic
#6 American "Conservative"
#7 Christian Democratic
#8 Right-wing Neoliberal (Thatcher)
#9 Anarcho-Communist
#10 Liberal Socialist
#11 Marxist
#12 Burkean (liberal) Conservative
#13 Liberal Nationalist
#14 Soviet "Communist"
#15 Christian Socialist
#16 National Socialist
#17 Revolutionary Conservative/Monarchist (far right)
#18 Fascist

I think I got that exact same order. Itīs good not to be alone...

About the confussion with the meaning of "liberalism", I would say that historic entities canīt have only one "correct" definition. Thatīs quite obvious with the word "neo-liberalism": in the beggining of the XXth century it was used to describe a left-liberalism, closer to the socialdemocrats in economic matters. Now itīs often used to describe a purely free-market oriented type of liberalism, often very conservative in social issues (and even opposed to democracy - e.g., Chicago Boys & Milton Friedman working for Pinochet).

Personally, I prefer a "european" definition of liberalism, but thatīs just because Iīm used to it and not to the "american" meaning - which I canīt differentiate of "socialdemocracy" or "social-liberalism".

Sure, I agree to your general principle on words, but we can still argue one word as better than another... Wink

Neo-liberals aren't necessarily socially conservative, though they may well be undemocratic.

I looked back at what everyone else got on this test, and it seems pretty bogus o_o

I took it again, and some of the questions were rather odd. Christian Socialist, American Liberal, and that Clinton neoliberal were what I came up with.

I know what neoliberal means...it's Clinton's 'New Democrat' stuff.  It took aspects of Reaganism and old-school liberalism and blended 'em.

#2 Left-wing Neoliberal (Clinton)
#3 Right-wing Neoliberal (Thatcher)
#4 Liberal Nationalist
#5 Social Democratic
#6 Social-Liberal
#7 Christian Democratic

This is first time when I take clearly conservative position in the Anglo-Saxon test. In Finland I always get Conservative Party.

Should I take Republican avatar?

On the other hand Clinton is #2...

No.  Republicans are NeoLiberals (some of us left-wing and others right-wing).  With american liberal as your best choice your Red seems fitting wrt other posters here.  However yours is American Conservative.  I have no idea with what US party that might correspond.  (constitutionalists perhaps?  e.g., Howard Phillips or Michael Peroutka)

It's Republican.  I got the same thing as my top choice and second I got Liberal Nationalist, which if you combine the two would make me sort of a neo-con.

But he's a foreigner.  Ergo, Not A Republican!  the fact that almost every foreigner prefers Kerry will help Bush win.  I'm not campaigning here, but why rock that boat?  It seems anathematic that a non-US person would be sympathetic to the more loyal and patriotic and nationalistic of the two major factions.  I think Huckleberry Finn should stay red (or green).

Do you consider that our foreigners' red avatars are offensive?

Only problem with green avatar is the ugly colour.

Oh and the Progressive Party!

If this test didn't put Social-Liberal first, it would have been an utter failure. At least it managed to get that right. I'm a bit surprised by all the far-leftist stuff near the top; maybe that's the result of strong support for universal health care and education while opposing basically everything all of the lower-ranked ideologies stand for.

In other words, after the first five, I relate almost not at all with any of the ideologies, and even Social Democracy is a stretch. The problem, of course, is that we aren't given the opportunity to provide the reasoning behind our answers, which would explain why my support for universal health care isn't a social democratic position; my reasoning is decidedly non-social democratic.

Not that surprising, really. I wonder if anyone would even get 'Revolutionary Conservative/Monarchist'. I didn't scour the thread thoroughly but really now.. and this test is pretty skewed. There aren't even two questions for every possible rank.
