Terrible choice, but Emsworth is definately better. And he'd win too.

Emsworth. Some of Jake's positions are rather strange and whilst I will not accuse him of being a fascist, like many people due rather unjustly, I will say that he is rather authoritarian in his political views.

I'd vote for myself and I'd win, simply because America is not quite ready to elect a minority candidate, no matter how much more qualified or articulate he is. Twenty years from now, Emsworth would kick my ass and drag me through the mud on his way to victory.

Good choices! I'd probably vote for Jake and hope he nominates Emsworth for Chief Justice on the off chance Roberts dies in a freak shaving accident.

heh, for as much as Jake complains about libertarians and claims they'll never win, I can only imagine the polling.

"If you were to choose between a fascist and a libertarian candidate, which would you choose?"

Jake gets less than 40% of the vote.

No I think he would do very well in the country as a whole - similarly to Bush.

They're terrible. A 3rd party would get the votes of the liberals. One of these clowns is an extremist who opposes a minimum wage (86% of Americans support increasing it), and the other is a fascist. Clearly the fascist would win.

if i was playing partisan politics, then yes, these candidates would not fit me. However, unlike you, i have the ability to put my differences aside and look at the other attributes of a candidate. Ive always been impressed with Emsworth's ability to compromise and work his ass off for other people.

opebo, you do realize that only 30% of the country voted Bush, and a lot of it was because of stupid single issues, and a lot of people really didn't put much time into thinking about who they're voting for--and it was a narrow victory.

No, he doesn't. He should keep his mind out of politics and in some whores. In other words, he should keep his head not only in the gutter, but underwater.

Emsworth/Emsworth, although neither would I feel comfortable with as president nor would either make a very good candidate.

I was actually just thinking about this election, I'd say

Emsworth 56% 362 EV
Jake 44% 176 EV

As you might expect, I would vote for myself. However, I would probably be a horrendous candidate. Libertarianism does not really go down well with the voters. Most people just approach elections with the attitude, "What will the government do for me?" It is not, "Will the government respect the Constitution"; it is not "Will the government expand freedom for all Americans?" I don't mean to seem elitist, but this is how most voters think, as evidenced by how most candidates run their campaigns.

I shudder at the prospect of telling the voters that the federal minimum wage is unconstitutional, for example. If I were to remain completely truthful, Jake would probably win.

One of these clowns is an extremist who opposes a minimum wage (86% of Americans support increasing it)...
86% of Americans do not care about the Constitution (see the quotation in my sig.)

Good choices! I'd probably vote for Jake and hope he nominates Emsworth for Chief Justice on the off chance Roberts dies in a freak shaving accident.
Hah, I would probably enjoy being Chief Justice much more than being President. I would probably get more support for that position, actually, than for the Presidency (although Jfern and the like will probably oppose me anyway).

I think we'd both lose if our full opinions were revealed to the public.

I wouldn't characterize Jake as a fascist, insomuch as he does not stress the creation of an authoritarian corporatist state. I've never seen him argue that corporate interests should be exalted at the expense of individuals; in fact, his views are pretty much the opposite. Thus, while he is certainly a nationalist and a statist, he is not, as far as I can see, a fascist.

He's more of a populist, and is therefore more likely to achieve extensive popular support. My only hope is that I could raise much more money from corporate donors than he can. Tongue

He may not be one in the Mussolini mold, but he's an authoritarian ultra-nationalist, which is pretty much what fascism today is used to describe.

Using BRTD's definition of fascism (an authoritarian), yeah sure, I'm a fascist. Then again, BRTD has an extremely broad definition for everything he disgarees with and an extremely strict definition for eveyrthing he agrees with.

Here's what I got:

Voting on Social Issues Only (Using Avatar colors for parties):

Voting on Economic Issues Only (Same colors):

So if half the people voted on social issues and half the people voted on economic issues, it would look something like this (pretend there was no party loyalty):

I might be completely wrong, but whatever.

Nebraska and Kansas would vote for a economic libertarian over a free market populist? Same with New England and Hawaii.

Since when does North Carolina lean economic libertarian?  All of their Republicans opposed CAFTA.
