In what year?

1920: Hoover easily defeats FDR, seeing how Hoover is a national hero who saved urope from starvation and then mobilized the U.S. in fuel conservation and food preservation from 1917-1921.

1928: Hoover once again easily defeats FDR.

1932 and 1936: FDR would win given the Depression and how well he could play the role of "man of the people".

1940: Possible comeback if Hoover would extol "Vote for Roosevelt and Vote for War" or seomething along that line.

I assume you meant 1940, not 1840. There's no way that Hoover could have won a Presidential election again until at least 1972, and even then, McGovern would likely beat him.

Pbrunsel, as our resident historian, do you think any Democrat could have won in 1928?

Hm...

Perhaps Gov. Theodore Bilbo (D-MS), Senator Joe Robinson (D-AR), or Senator Morris Sheppard (D-TX) could have *maybe* defeated Hoover. If Charles Curtis or William Borah hod een the GOP nominee, than any of those 3 could have won.

Your "knowledge" of history is always good for a laugh Jfern. Try reading about Hoover before you bash him.

FDR, Truman, Stevenson, JFK, LBJ, and Humphrey would just run against Hoover's economic record and win. Humphrey only barely lost to Nixon, and Stevenson only got his butt kicked because he was running against Eisenhower.

Hey PB, why don't you do a detailed timeline on a Hoover Presidency from, say, 1920 onwards? I really enjoyed reading your Nader v Bush thread.

But you gorget he pretty much was forgiven for "starting" the depression after sucesfully leading the world once again in feeding the world (Finland in 1939, Europe from 1946-1950, South America 1950-1953) and then the Hoover Commission that the government beurocracy in the executive branch in half, saving taxpayers millions.

So he easily could have defeated the "egghead" Stevenseon and by waving the War Shirt in 1940, might have beaten FDR.

And you actually think you know something about Herbert Hoover.

I was actually planning on doing that after I complete Atlas Campaign 2032 (I intend on ending that by Christmas). Smiley

That was much too early since the Civil War. They'd have carried the then-solidly Democratic south but nothing else.
