take the 2000 election map.  Give Pennsylvania to the Republicans and Florida to the Democrats.  Engler was not well liked in Michigan, despite the 1998 county map.  Gore couldn't win his home state either.

Ridge wouldnt have had enough power to give PA to Engler even though he was relatively popular at the time. It would have been a happy ending for Gore supporters everywhere.

Gore/Lieberman: 52%

Engler/Ridge: 47%

Nader/LaDuke(?): 1%

Engler would at least win Michigan, I know the 98 map is not a good example of his popularity.

Gore - 244
Engler - 294
*Assuming Nelson was a Senator from Florida.

Relatively popular? Ridge would have been enough to flip the state and Engler would have won Michigan.

Which is why Ridge was elected in a landslide in 1998. Right
