McConnell would be easy to confirm, but Bush has been hinting at diversity (woman or minority).

Why would he pick a Souter? At least we know Clement is good on Commerce Clause issues.

I'll be filling out my Constitution Party card soon if Bush picks either of those two first mentioned. I'm already sending in my dues for www.jbs.org.

Come home to the Democratic Party, you 'moderate Dixiecrat' you Wink

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it meant Bush had so much power now that he was getting rid of the office of president, as in scrapping the separation of powers.

Unless Bush makes a desperate bid for his overly satisfied, evil base, Luttig doesn't have a chance in hell.

Chris Matthews said on his show that if Bush nominates another white male, he'll have to be moderate like Roberts to be confirmed. If he nominates a woman or minority, that person could be (far) more conservative, yet still get passed, simply b/c of the diversity factor. (We all know thats the only reason that Thomas got through in '91). I think Matthews is absolutely right.

Good for you. No one else does.

If that was true, Edith Jones would be the no-brain pick.

AuH2O, who would you pick? Keep in mind the Dems are insisting Jones, Garza, and Luttig are all "unacceptable" and "too conservative."

I don't know about AuH20, but I would pick either Jones or Garza. As a matter of fact, I'd start to hope some of the older left-or-center judges retire, and nominate both, and throw Luttig in too. Cheesy.

Bush, and the Republican party at large, need to find measures where they can stop identifying themselves as Religious Democrats - and the judiciary is a fairly easy place to do it. And yes, of late the Republican vs. Democrat divide seems to be Populist vs. Socialist, which is frankly a sickening scenario.
