Support for Atlasia's Soldiers Bill

Section 1 - Pay for Armed Forces Personnel

An increase in annual pay of $3,000 for all active duty military personnel and reserve and National Guard personnel serving in a zone of special danger at any time during the fiscal year and an increase in annual pay of $1,000 for all other military personnel shall take effect in fiscal year 2006.

Section 2 - Funding
The funds for the above salary increases shall be derived from the budget of the Defense Department.

Section 3 - Repeal of the Solomon Amendment
The Solomon Amendment is hereby repealed

The question is on final passage. All those in favor, say Aye; those opposed, say No.

Abstain. Some good stuff, but I don't like Section 3 and I think we need to be a little tighter on the purse.

With five ayes and an abstention, the bill has enough votes to pass. Senators have 24 hours to vote or change their votes.

Well, given that my vote doesn't count for a whole lot on this one anyway, I'm going to give a symbolic "nay" purely to voice a protest against this two- or three-billion dollar spending increase at a time when extra funding is not exactly easy to come by.

If you want to tell me that this proves that I hate the troops, go right ahead. Tongue

Actually, I agree with you, though I did want to repeal the Solomon Amendment.
