In the end, I probably would have.  However, I would have walked out when that whole "pubic hair" debate was going on.  That was so childish.

I will have to admit that he was not the most qualified or the brightest candidate. However, despite his lack of scholarly abilities, he does interpret the Constitution quite reasonably in most cases. (There are quite a few cases in which he seems to take an absurd position unsupported by the Constitution--for example, he holds that the President may detain "enemy combatants" essentially without any judicial oversight.)

But yes.

No.  The ideology he applies at the court is diametrically opposed to my own, and additionally having an uncle tom on the court is offensive to african-americans.

Can't please you people!  Have a black on the court, and it's offensive to blacks... don't have one, and the court isn't diverse enough.

By "you people," I was not referring to blacks, but rather politically correct elites like you that think they speak for the minorites and downtrodden.

What is the standard by which a potential supreme court justice should be judged?

The constitution requires that they take an oath to support the constitution. But the majority of the court now doesn't give a damn about the constitution.

Thomas seems to adhere to it more than the others most of the time.
