But what would you say about cases in which US peacekeeping is neccesary to prevent genocide?  For example Bosnia / Somalia / Liberia?

Would you have America rever to an isolationist mentality dating back to the pre-FDR days?

I am not an isolationist, I am a strong interventionist. I do support the United States intervening in peacekeeping missions in countries in which genocide is occuring, as long as we have UN support. My positions above were concerning areas in which the United States should intervene regardless of the UN's position. However, if the United Nations commits to a peacekeeping operation in another country, than I believe that the United States should also commit troops to that peacekeeping operation. If we do not have UN support, however, I would not support using our military except as outlined in my previous post.

Good answer.  But if the United States had credible evidence that a pre-emptive attack is neccesary, would it not be able to convince the United Nations to authorize such a use of force?

Yes, I strongly believe in the wisdom of our allies on the UN security council, and I believe that we could convince them of the rightful purpose of our actions if we had solid enough evidence.

How could you cast your vote/support for someone when you don't know my positions on Foreign Policy?

Tell it to him, and you might change his mind! If he hasn't already voted (which I think is irreversible, right?) Smiley

Is this the only primary and that's it?
That seems a bit odd.

I was thinking this could be the first of say, three primaries.  It'd be somewhat more realistic.
We'd have this one, the candidates can see what's going on and do something about it.
Then we'd have another, wait a couple of days, and have one more.
Then whoever gets the most in the 3 primaries together gets the nomination.
This way would be more realistic, as it gives the candidates time after a primary to see what they can do.

What you're really after is a state-by-state primary, right? Wink

Seriously, I agree, it would be more fun that way. But certain people seem to be in a big rush about this... Wink

Perhaps then we should do 2 or 3 primaries.  In a real scenario, people drop out after the early ones don't go their way, leaving 2 to duke it out to the end.

The only reason I endorsed NYM90 w/out seeing anyone else was b/c he was the only one running who i thought appealed to the liberal base of the party.  Asking the foreign party questions only sealed the deal... ;-)

Migrendel is a socialist and Chris is a conservative, so there you go.

Is there a list of everyone running and their platforms? Or is this all informal?

It is up to the candidates to realease their platforms.  The Dems running are Migrendel (wire reports are that he will drop out tonight), Nym90, and Christopher Michael.

It's kind of formal. If you look at the Dem primary poll, the candidates which you can vote for there are the candidates. About platforms, you will have to ask them on these boards. You can also access their profiles through the member list and see what they have posted on different issues. But, basically, we all know that Chris is socially conservative, Migrendel a leftist socialist and Nym90 is somewhere in between.

How can you vote for somebody when the primaries aren't even over? In real life, RhodeRage, an ultra liberal is running against 8 other DEM Candidates and a fairly popular  [R] incumbent President. Dean is shunning more moderate and conservative DEMS away. That's not a uniter it's a divider. And, currently, there is a larger Republican Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, and what do they do? All matters of taxing and spending. Who would they likely listen to? A Conservative Democrat like Myself. I am actually more to the left than I appear to be. I am pro-labor; I accept Abortion in cases of Rape and Incest and the Health and Life of the Mother. I now support Gay Rights and Gay Unions. However, the conservative part of this Democrat thinks that benefits should be given to a gay union's spouse, but only at 75% of benefits otherwise allocated to heterosexual couples. Now, reconsider your allegiance, to be on a winning team and sail into Victory.

I'm afraid that you don't understand my reasoning, Christopher Michael.  I respect the moderate portion of the party, but do not feel that they are the only answer.  The problem that we have is that no one will step up to the plate and be truly idealistic.  That's why people don't like the Democratic Party -- because why choose a wannabe Republican when a normal Republican will do just fine.

I am against moderation and am against centre politics.  It may not be a winning formula, but it is what i believe in.  Strong ideals, strong dedications and strong action.  In my opinion, we shouldn't sacrifice the principles of the party just to unite it.  Liberal idealism is present the whole world over and America needs to catch up.  We need to stand up against this conservative tide and not join with it.

Nym90 is not somewhere in between unless he went so far left to end up in the middle again.

CNN Breaking News:

CNN: It seems as though WV-UMW leader Al Realpolitik(D-WV) has finally made his mind up over who to endorse in the Democratic Primary:

Al Realpolitik: After much thought I have decided to endorse the candidacy of Nym90 who has agreed to repeal that Taft-Hartley bullsh**t.
The other two candidates are both very good, and if either of them win the primary, I will not hesitate to endorse one of them.
That will be all.

Reporter: What about the rumours about...

Al Realpolitik: Shut up
