...the threads from election night 2004.  And they made me mad.

The Republicans started piling on at 2:30 for Kerry not yet conceding the election...why?  They brought out their hate America tagline again.

Kerry of course conceded at about 11am, and they shut up.

I guess they chose to get mad, because it made them look better in same way.

Any thoughts on this matter.

They probably didn't want a repeat of the 2000 election. 2000 opened our eyes to the fact that the results of an election could be dissected for weeks before a winner was declared, and I think that upset a lot of people.

Plus, there was the way Gore fought relentlessly for every vote in Florida to be counted. What a jerk. Tongue

I was personally annoyed at Wolf Blitzer on election night.  Nobody else.

I was fine until the Edwards speech about not giving up, that scared me.

I don't care too much who won, as long as they had it figured out before the end of November.

One of the problems was that it was clear that the result was a Bush win at 2:30 AM, but the networks were unwilling to call it.  They were being over cautious because of 2000.

I would have had less of a problem if they had called it and Kerry conceded the next day.

I don't understand the concept of conceding an election. If you lose in such a way that it's undisputed (like every presidential election of the past century except 1948, 1960 and 2000), just don't do anything.

Why call the opposition at all?

After all the smearing of each other that they do?

The real reason is to save face in the public eye.  He'd be perceived as a 'sore loser' and hated for the rest of history.  They don't care about being courteous, just that they want to look good.

Yes, like it's theirs to give away, when it really belongs to us. And the House's to certify, IIRC

2004 was still pretty close. But yeah, most elections are like 1952, 1956, 1964, 1972, 1980, 1984, 1992, 1996, pretty obviously who won right away.
