What?

Better suited than what?  Southeastern Idaho?  Moderate libertarian land?

LOL, they elect wingnuts. Vermont is moderate libertarian land, not Idaho.

As compared to what?

Politics is not my first consideration when picking a place to live.  I wanted to live in an upscale area with good public facilities (schools, beaches, parks, etc.), nice homes, and a low crime rate, with reasonable taxes.  My biggest concerns were quality of life and property appreciation.

Politics is a secondary concern, and probably a derivative concern.  Once I have ascertained that the community contains the sort of people that I can relate to, it is pretty much a given that the politics will be within a tolerable range.

Where I live is pretty evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.  I'd prefer it to be more heavily Republican, but it's certainly within a tolerable range for me.

Within the United States? Certainly. Unfortunately, it's pretty meaningless, due to a certain worthless president's attack on federalism.

As far as I'm concerned, politics is a lot like an area's climate: an added bonus. All things being equal, I would take a conservative area over a liberal area, but there are a lot more things to consider. I've been in a lot of places and all around, everything considered, I would usually take an area in the interior mountain west over anywhere else.

I agree with the above. The biggest thing is to live in a quality area where you can have a good life. If that area happens to be conservative, cool.

Politics is not my first consideration when picking a place to live.

Mine neither, though most places that I'd like to live in for other reasons, tend to be liberal politically.

I will never live in a city that did not vote for Kerry.

Also any city that's half decent to live in is heavily Dem anyway.

Would you live in a heavily Democratic city that bans strip clubs or a heavily Republican city with the sexiest strip clubs in the country? Wink

My ward voted in excess of 90% for Kerry.  I love my neighborhood.

What's a ward? I don't care about the specific area I live in, unless it has lawmaking authority. I'd imagine most people are the same way (jfern and BRTD excepted).

Not likely to ever happen.

I hear Atlanta has loads of amazing strip clubs, but the city of Atlanta is very Democratic, just a sea of common sense in an island of Republicanism.

Houston and Seattle, then. Seattle just banned lap dances and the opening of new strip clubs.

to clarify:

we still have strip clubs a'plenty.

I was just mentioning a nice, Republican-voting city.

I doubt a place that would suit me exists.  The world is a pretty awful, unfree place.

I'll make sure to tell the countless small businesses that get robbed, women who get raped, and citizens who get mugged in Atlanta (the city with the worst juvenile crime record in the nation) that they live on "an island of common sense".

At least they vote the right way. The crime rate in Minneapolis is way higher than the suburbs, but that doesn't mean the people who live there have way more common sense than the people who live in the sterile and boring utter sh!thole that is the suburbia.

Anyway I'm pretty sure Houston proper voted for Kerry but I will say that I will never live in Seattle now after that piece of repressive prudery passed, it boggles my mind how that could happen there in such a liberal city, but the good news is the city council elections are upcoming and hopefuly those who voted that awful legislation shall pay and it can be overturned. But otherwise if I ever move to Washington it'd be Tacoma or Olympia.

But one should compare how the residents of Minneapolis treat their strip clubs compared to how the intolerant prudes in rural South Dakota keep trying to shut down one out there that is literally in the middle of nowhere. And then compare how they vote.

No, I love the Southeast. I put my identity as a Southerner above financial and political success. I can do quite fine here.

Why would you want to live in Tacoma.
Judging by forumites who hail from there, it must be a hotbed of fascism. Tongue

You people m ust also realize I used to live in a very Republican city and I hated it.

Once I moved here, which is far more Democratic, I liked it a lot.
