Assume it is not a rape/incest/life of mother case.

Yes. If a minor needs parental consent for even minor medical procedures, then she certainly needs parental consent for abortion.

This reason gets a yes out of me.

No.  If her parents were not abusive intolerants she would tell them on her own.  Whether she does so or not is not the State's business.

Technically yes, it's im the best interests for them to know but a mother or father has no right to force their child to go through with a preganancy if they don't want to.

I would strike the words "has no right" and insert "definitely should not", and I don't mean that to be nitpicking.

I'm no lawyer or expert in this area at all, but I think a minor's "rights" when it comes to medical treatment are somewhere between few and none.  As someone noted earlier, the parents need to consent to nearly everything.   Witholding live saving medical care - well, a child probably has "rights" in this regard without parental consent, but not consenting to abortion when the pregnancy is unwanted is probably within the parent's rights, although I don't think they should excercise it.

Oh no I agree, the legal line is blurred and should be clarified. It's unfair for parents to say 'I dont give a damn about your future and your education, I just really want a grandson so no abortion for you missy', though I'd like to believe that not many do, regardless of their views on abortion itself.

It is perfectly harmless if no girls tell their parents.  My point is that most parents are judgemental tyrants, so it is wholely unsurprising that girls wouldn't want to expose themselves to abuse.

I don't believe they should have to get parental consent for minor medical procedures either though. I strongly oppose laws that restrict minors from getting tattoos and piercings.

If some kid wants a tattoo or piercing, it's their body, I say let them regardless of what their parents think.

Abortion is not a minor medical procedure.

Ok, just a question for you, BRTD, and I want you to seriously think about it: Let's say you own a tatoo parlor, and a five year old comes in and says he wants a tatoo of something or other on his back. He shows you he has the money. So, would you think it is ethical for you as a professional to give this five year old a tatoo simply because he wants one?

no, but that's just my personal decision, it doesn't mean it should be the law.
