Electorally, that could be very accurate.

McCain is a Yankee and could dig out regions of the northeast.

Not only would I vote for McCain, but he'd definitely win.  The race would be closer in North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia.  Ultimately, however, McCain would prevail.  He'd also probably snag a few Northeastern states like Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine.  He'd most likely get midwestern battlegrounds like Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin as well.

That's one of the few situations in which I would consider voting for McCain.

I think that McCain would win handily.  He's a psuedo-conservative (occasionally), and a war hero.  'nuff said.

Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Maine are a bit iffy.  Wouldn't be so sure on calling those for Edwards.

Yeah, my map was wildly slanted toward Johnny. A more realistic one would look like this:

I'd be interested to know the veep picks. These recent elections especially 2000, have been so close that every little thing could make a difference. For example, does McCain's pick mollify some religious right conservatives? Like Santorum. Would an Edwards pick ease concerns that Edwards hasn't had enough experience (as Cheney did for Bush in 2000). Richardson might be good in this regard, possibly Biden.

I vote Edwards. He'd have the vision thing Kerry lacked. But he'd have to get past the "enough experience thing," although there are plenty of examples in the past of candidates who did. Lincoln, Wilson wasn't that experienced, FDR had been ASSISTANT sec to the Navy, but had only been NY gov for a short time, Carter was a one term governor, Bush only six years. I think in the end people would go with Edwards after eight long years of GOP rule- ESPECIALLY if there was a veep on the ticket that eased concerns about his relatively short tenure in govt.
