Good lotd, they also had a train de-railment too and 3 girls were beheaded walking to their Christian school in Indonesia. Talk about a tinderbox.

Was it the Sikhs or the Muslims? Both tend to be nasty fascists.

Been a while since the Sikh extremists struck in a big way IIRC (besides seeing as the current PM is a Sikh anyway, it'd seem an odd time to start all that up again).

Just thinking about this, but the sheer amount of groups that could have done this is depressingly long. The Tamil Tigers have been more active down in Sri Lanka again for one thing... then there's the usual large range of extreme sectarian groups... and the various ethnic seperatists... and those Maoist groups (I dimly recall reading that they've been more active this year. Or was it less active?). O/c it's possible that something has spilled over from Pakistan, Bangladesh or Nepal.

That doesn't necessarilly matter, India has a Muslim President and the people might still be Muslims.

Not the kind of thing Naxalites would do.
There's a group with the Urdu name Inquilab (Revolution) that has claimed responsibility...okay, now I've seen 'em described once as "a Kashmiri group with ties to the Pakistani secret services" and once as "a previously unknown grouping"...
I need a map of where the bomb sites are.

Hm. I need a more detailed map.
Paharganj is of course the traveller ghetto of Dehli  - or rather, parts of Paharganj are - otherwise it's just a poorish neighborhood just SW of Shahjahanabad (Old Delhi).
Sarojini Nagar is South of New Delhi (ie, the British-built area) and is I think fairly middle class. Never heard of Govindpuri but according to the map it's South of the really central areas but still likely to the north of Purana Qila, and thence still fairly central. That whole area is mostly overwhelmingly Hindu and (by Indian standards) rich (but there are of course slum enclaves in between), with a couple of scattered old growth areas in between that are quite Islamic.

Yeah, Pahar Ganj blast was in backpacker area.
The Southern one (also described as in "Okhla Phase I") was further South than I thought at first glance, and thence seriously suburban. Anyways, people got lucky on that one as the conductor threw the bomb off the bus a minute or so before it exploded. It still killed three.
As to Inquilab, Hindustan Times describes it as "an obscure Pakistani militant group that security experts believe may be a front for a larger grouping". I saw one named (forgot the name) that they believe has ties to Al Qaeda but not to Pakistan.

Indian papers are publishing fairly gruesome pictures...

Not gruesome, but look at him. He's probably a daily wages laborer. How is he going to work with both feet and one hand damaged?

This one would never have been published in Germany or America:

Sikhs are nice by the way. I don't like the thing about not cutting hair or not drinking alcohol, but I like a lot of the other tenents of their religion. I like how they discourage any type of superstition or ritualistic behaviors like pilgrimages or fasting, discourage any type of celebate and reclusive living and insist on all humans being equal to the point they don't even have priests or any sort of clergy. And of course their emphasis on how wealth and material possessions mean little. It's actually a very leftist religion. Probably my favorite after Christianity, and certainly better than the Robertson/Falwell branches of Christianity.

Yes, but they are very unsanitary with that hair.  The smell is not pleasant.
