Lets say that due to a slightly more mismanaged and longer reconstruction than what happened OTL we've got the south ending up secessionist like how Quebec did complete with a 1995 style referendum in 1980. Also in this world due to more southern rage and dislike for the rest of the US theres no sunbelt south development. How does the US develop without the south in post 1980 politics?

Well, if Reconstruction lasted that long, the Democrats would lose every election if the South seceded because the South would never vote Republican.

I meant reconstruction would go on for a decade more or so giving the south more time to be angry at the US...

Yeah, I think that would make the Democrats never support civil rights, meaning that the Democrats would continue to win the South.

Or what about neither party in this TL aiming for the wallace/klan vote in the late 20th century? Nothing says that EVERY electoral group needs to be 9in a party..
