I owe the idea of Al Gore Sr. in this contest to DanielX.  Thank you.

In 1960, both Republicans and Democrats nominate Presidential candidates whose grandson and son would battle each other for the Presidency 40 years later.

The Republicans nominate Senator Prescott Bush of Connecticut for President,  65 years old, Senator since 1953.  Bush, a moderate, chooses Senator Barry Goldwater of Arizona, more conservative, 51, Senator since 1953.

The Democrats nominate Senator Al Gore Sr. of Tennessee for President, 53 years old, Senator since 1953.  Gore, a moderate, chooses Senator Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota, more liberal, 49, Senator since 1949.

How does this first Bush/Gore election turn out?

Please stick to the topic of how the election turns out.  Thanks.

bush wins comfortably, but the placement of goldwater on the ticket hurts him in some states.

bush/goldwater: 53%, 297 EVs
gore/humphrey:  46%, 240 EVs

Walter, I think you got the electoral totals on yours reversed.  That map gives Gore a victory.

What state does Prescott run from?  It's somewhere in New England right?

Yes.  Connecticut.

In 1960, he had been a Senator from Connecticut since 1953.
