According to this thread, it is still illegal in many states.

If you voted yes, what should the penalty be?

I voted no.

The penalty should be having to seek mental help, like it is in these states.

Attempting to give up one's life should not be punished any more than attempting to give up one's liberty or property. Just because someone has a right to life (in my opinion), it does not follow that he has an obligation to live.

These people should go through some sort of rehab or something.  They aren’t harming anyone by taking their life, but they are probably mentally unstable, and could be a risk to society.

It should be a capital crime.

Just kidding.

No, but they should be put into mental institutions.

If it's successful, then it should come with a mandatory death sentence. We should privatize the death penalty.

It depends, in most cases of attempted suicide the person puposely failed, and it was just a cry for help, this shouldn't be a crime.

In the cases when someone actully fails to kill themselves, they should be put to death for stupidity.  Humans aren't that hard to kill.

No (I)

Why? because this failed attempt usually comes with regret.
ALso depends on what was being used for the attempted suicide. What if the person was trying to self-overdose with some prescription medication?
or what if the person just try to cut his wrist with a razor balde?

Yes.  These people need to be locked up for a year and given some serious counseling.  I remember going through my depression era, and my shrinks were certain that I was a suicide risk.  Fortunately for me, I still had my whits about me in regards to suicide, and that what I was going through wasn't impossible to overcome.  But, if I were, I would want someone to toss me into a padded cell and keep me from hurting myself and help me realize the flaws in my logic, and help me get back on my feet again.

Yes anyone who attempts to commit suicide or actually commits suicide should be given the death penalty. That will teach them a lesson.

To be honest it wouldn't supprise me if some nut in the government actually proposed such a thing, given government's penchant for meddling in other people's private affairs.
