Hollingsworth v. Virginia, 3 U.S. 378 (1798)

The Supreme Court rejected the claim that the Eleventh Amendment, having not been presented to the president, was illegally adopted.

An argument can be made that the decision was unsound. Article I is quite clear in stating, "Every Order, Resolution, or Vote to which the Concurrence of the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary (except on a question of Adjournment) shall be presented to the President of the United States."

This is one precedent, however, that must be left untouched, regardless of whether it was correct.
