The 2008 presidential election was a real ding dong between two of the biggest men ever to contest the job. The Republicans (following a massive party support plan) changed the constitution and adopted Governor Schwarzengger (CA) as their candidate and he in turn chose Cory Everson (NJ) as his vice presidential candidate.

The Democrats in turn decided to fight fire with fire and adopted Gray Davis (CA) the former governor of the state in what the media called "Recall Rematch". A title that suited his running mate Cruz Bustamente (CA) who of course failed to be elected at the recall election.

So, Schwarzengger vs Davis 2008, I'd like your opinions

Sam Brownback and Barbara Mikulski mount a unity ticket and sweep all 50 states and DC.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to Austria, stating if America doesn't want him, then he doesn't want America.

Gray Davis becomes a tour guide at Disneyland.

The right-wing revolts and runs an insurgent campaign lead by Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo, who sweeps the South and the Mormon Triangle.  Davis carries New England and narrowly picks up California.  Schwarzenegger carries the rest.

Davis ... narrowly picks up California.

Er... that seems kind of unlikely, given that it was Californian voters who booted him out of office before his term was up.  As bad as Arnold's approval ratings are in California, they aren't as low as Davis' were before California kicked him out.

So something like this then?

The "Mormon Triangle" is Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming.  The South includes Virginia and Texas.

Beyond those minor bits, yes, your map is correct.

Arnold's none too popular out here at the moment, and I think Davis thinks he's been vindicated by history according to what I've been reading.  So we'll see.

Have there been any after-the-fact opinion polls on Davis?  I'm curious, as I'm not sure if it's ever been asked whether or not Californians regret ejecting him.  I think most people just assume that they don't.

Sorry, but a split in the Republic party in the South would lead to a Democratic win throughout the region.  If Whites split 45-45-10 (Republican-Republican-Demorat) and Blacks split their usual 90-5-5, then Demorats wins becuase they have a basis of 40% in most states.

Half the state says they wouldn't have recalled him now, or some such number I believe.

Oh, interesting.

You may be right that he'd win California, then.
