In 1991, President Bush announces that he'll retire instead of seeking another term.  Defense Secretary Cheney wins the nomination and selects Education Secretary Bill Bennett for the second spot.

Jerry Brown wins the Democratic nomination after the Juanita Braddock rape accusation comes out right before the California primary.

Perot sticks in the race.

Who wins?  Maps?

Great sig, but bad map.

Hard to say, really, but I bet Cheney would have won.  Without an incumbent, Perot wouldn't have made nearly as big an impact, and Jerry Brown was...weird.

35-35-27-3 Cheney-Perot-Brown-other.

Close race between Cheney and Perot, as likely as not it goes to the house. We could see President Brown even though he'd've been in 3rd...

You are being far too generous with Arkansas and West Virginia.  I doubt the map would look anything like the real 1992 result.

A slight Cheney win, and Alcon, West Virginia was still a Democratic state at this time:

West Virginia move the Republican column has very little to do with change in the state itself, and a lot more to do with the change of the Democratic Party.

I vote Cheney, but its a very close election.

People need to remember, Jerry " Moonbeam" Brown was a weirdo, and Cheney was very popular in 1992.
