Romney Trails two Democrats in new Poll

State House News Poll (352 registered voters)
Tom Reilly: 52%
Romney: 36%
William Gavin: 46%
Romney: 41%
Romney: 42%
Deval Patrick: 40%
Reilly and Gavin (if he runs) are the two Democratic "establisment" candidates, while Deval Patrick is the little known newcomer. If I was in Massachusetts, I'd be voting for Patrick in the primary. From what I've seen and read, he is an exciting candidate.

On the GOP side, for 2016, look out for Gov. Phill Kline (KS), Gov. Ralph Reed (GA), Gov. JD Hayworth (AZ), Sen. David Vitter (LA), among others.

So of the three Democrats, you'd support the only one who is currently losing? Way to go.

Was that a joke?
Anyway, Patrick is by far the least known candidate and I have no problem with supporting him. He is a progressive, reform-minded Democrat.

patrick has a horrible organization. i dont think he will be much of a factor in the primary.
patrick has also upset some of the libs by being an outspoken supporter of one president bush's controversial ambassador nominees....i cant remember the name right off.
reilly is a boring candidate, who has a squishy position (to say the least) on gay marriage.
rommey can and would beat any of the three mentioned candidates in the poll.

You could be right, but the primary is a long ways off and he has plenty of time to make himself known.

Nah, Massachusetts is already sick of their flip-flopping governor who travels around the country insulting his own state. He will be gone, whether he declines to run again or gets voted out.

Not really. You posted a thread containing three polls; two showing Romney losing. You declared your support for the only one that Romney is beating.

is patrick really qualified to be governor?
he was a rather low ranking lawyer in the clinton justice department.
maybe he should try for lt. gov or a state legislature seat before running for governor?

The sooner the Bay State gets rid of that Mormon Governor, the better. I'd support a lot of Republicans for MA governor rather than have Brigham Romney and his biblical laws remain in office.

I'd like to see a Democrat take the Governership but with significantly more Republicans in the state legislature. Too much one party dominance can be a bad thing

i doubt you will see any pickups for the republicans in the state house.
the gop is pretty uncompetitive in state house races over most of the state.
they field competitive candidates on the cape. that is about it.

I agree with you, but until marriage rights are firmly established, the legislature must stay strongly Democrat. I'd prefer that a REAL moderate Republican become Governor. Whatever happened to Patrick Guerrero, Swift's Lieutenant Gov.? Or maybe Weld should run here instead of New York, where the polls show he is unknown and unpopular. I liked Weld.

i follow the mass state legislature pretty closely and i must say there is a pretty distinct conservative/liberal split (particularly on social issues) among the democrats.
it kind of reminds me of the old south in a lot of ways with the conservate-liberal democrat split.

Would you say that split was along religious lines? Massachussetts Protestants (31% of voters) supported Kerry (60-39) but Catholics (43% of voters) only broke (51-49) for Kerry. Jews and the non-religious broke heavily for Kerry

yes it is most certainly a religious split. from what i can tell, most of the conservative dems in the mass legislature are devout catholics and represent primarily blue collar areas.

Despite Romney drooping out months ago, I need somewhere to post this:
Tom Reilly is in lots of trouble now because his running mate has dropped out. It turns out she owes over $50,000 in student loans and unpaid taxes and yesterday she withdrew.

If Romney runs for re-election for Governor of Massachusetts, he wins.
These polls are meaningless this far out.
Romney's campaigning , debating, and speaking abilities are second to none.
Hopefully, a sane legislature will be elected, and overturn this looney same sex marriage bill.
