As introduced by Senator MasterJedi:

Atlasian Water Purity Bill

1. No person shall supply for drinking any water that he knows does not meet the primary drinking water regulations or secondary drinking water regulations set by the Environmental Protection Agency.
2. Any person who violates clause 1 of this act shall be imprisoned for not more than 3 years, or fined not more than $10,000, or both.
3. The President may suspend or reduce such drinking water regulations as he deems fit during times of drought or national emergency to a still safe level of quality.

I hereby open debate on this bill

I think this is a great bill that Atlasia needs. I hope everyone can support it and get this passed as fast as possible. Smiley

This bill has so many things wrong with it I don't know where to start.
First, it gives way too much power to administrative departments, thereby forsaking the senate's lawmaking power into the executive.
Secondly, this should be first and foremost a community issue, given that it is at municipal level that water supply is managed. This is totally contrary to the principles of subsidiarity and federalism our republic is grounded on.

This is a very important bill which Atlasia needs.  I hope that my two Senators (PBrunsel and DanielX) will cast their votes in favor of this bill.  Thank you.

P.S.: I am permitted to speak even though I am not a Senator, correct?

Although I wrote this bill on Sen. MasterJedi's behalf, I can't say that I support it. Regulating water seems to be a local issue; federal standards do not strike me as necessary.

I think this is a great and necessary bill-for the regions. I urge my governor to introduce a similar bill if this one fails; but I won't be voting for it in this chamber.

It seems to me that the extent to which a given sample of drinking water is hazardous to one's health is not really subjective or a hotly contested point of debate; it simply is what it is.  Therefore, I don't see a compelling reason to leave this up to small, individual governments.  It would not be very good for the general health to allow local governments to set whatever standard they pleased, including allowing blatantly unhealthy water to be given to drink just to cut costs, especially if they were under no obligation to let the citizenry know that the water was unhealthy.

Yes, because we all know federal government is totaly transparent and locla governments are corrupt quasi-mafias.

So, how many people died becuase of bad water in Atlasia the last year?
Is it me, or the senate has more important things to worry about?

This is a wonderful bill that despite the libertarian disregard for safety Atlasia desperately needs.

If all drinking water is perfectly healthy, then this bill should not be any cause for alarm to anyone because it will not do a thing.

I think Bono is making some good points.  Namely, what reason do we have that to believe that local government is unable to continue to be in charge of the water supply?  One is needed to justify new bureaucracy.

So far, I haven't seen a reason.

It will weaken federalism and create more bureocracy.

Now answer my question:
How many people died becuase of bad drinking water last year in Atlasia?
