The United States would not be a communist country.  That said, Russia would...
no they wouldn't.  The USSR was doomed to fall with or without Reagan.

You'll love this quote.

"The defining event of the decade, might well be the breakup of the Soviet Union." - Senator Daniel Moynihan, 1980.

So, Moynihan made an accurate prediction.  This doesn't mean the fall of the USSR was inevitable, it certainly wasn't.  By almost any measure, Russia was winning the Cold War in 1980.

The world would be better off today if the USSR we still around, I'd say.

The situation there is a lot worse, and having two superpowers in a MAD Cold War ironically keeps things more peaceful around the world because neither side will do anything to set off the other.

It also gave the owners in the US some motivation to throw a few crumbs to their workers.  Now that socialism has been 'discredited', the assumption is that there is no option but to accept your place under the bootheel.

The hostages were released on January 20th, 1981, probably just to help out Reagan.

The comies would have stolen all our millitary secrets while Carter read books on foreign policy and built houses.

I barely know what that means.  Are you saying Habitat for Humanity made America vulnerable to Soviet aggression

Giving our poor houses instills a false sense of security and gets in the way of the capitalist machine's "vagrantification," an important aspect of American society.

Get with the program, John.

Despite the fact that he was far and away the worst President in the history of this nation...

No, the United States would NOT be a Communist country if Jimmy Carter had been re-elected. However, Russia would still be known as the Soviet Union. Most of central and south America would be Marxist, including of course, Nicaragua. The Eastern European nations would still be under Soviet domination. The stock market would be about 4,000 instead of more than 10,000. Double digit inflation would be an accpeted fact, as would obscenely high interest rates. Your house, ot your parents' house if you're too young, would be worth about 60% of its current value. Gasoline prices would be around $5 to $6 per gallon. Other than that, things would be just dandy under Carter.

Yeah, but at least we have term limits to fall back on.
