Our good friend Zogby is back in the news, or at least, the subject of another op-ed piece:

"Polling a pollster"

When the national press devoured a new union-sponsored poll released last week by uber-pollster John Zogby claiming that a majority of Americans believe that "Wal-Mart is bad for America," not reported were serious ethical issues which call into question the integrity of the much-ballyhooed survey.

Perhaps because Mr. Zogby has such a sterling reputation -- which has enabled him to snare contracts with several top media outlets, including Reuters, NBC, and the Wall Street Journal -- his findings were reported largely unchallenged.

But what no journalist would have known without digging is that Mr. Zogby cannot be considered an objective third-party when it comes to Wal-Mart. Without the presumption that the pollster was working solely to gauge scientifically the attitudes of the public, the poll loses much of its luster and becomes just another cog in Big Labor's coordinated campaign against the retailer.

In recent years, Mr. Zogby has pocketed roughly $90,000 to serve as an expert witness for individuals suing Wal-Mart, according to testimony he gave in a deposition last year in an Arizona case. Nowhere is Mr. Zogby's prior work on behalf of plaintiffs mentioned in the press release announcing the poll results.

Classic!  Absolutely classic!  I've been warning this board for years that Zogby lost his objectivity.

I don't, but not because of what it is, but more because their stores are too crowded for my taste.  I like Target better.  Slightly higher prices, but less people bumping into you with their shopping carts.  Smiley

I don't shop either mostly because I don't shop often,  if I go to a retail store I go to K mart it is closer.  There are like three Wal Marts  all almost equal distance from me.

hahaha . . . "Resistance is futile."  Wink

I don't shop much either, except a run the grocery store every once in a while.  I pretty much have all the material possessions I need.  The only real shopping I do in stores is for Christmas, and even that I can do online these days.

I chickened out have way through composing my post.  I initially wrote:

"Classic!  Absolutely classic!  I've been warning this board for years that Zogby lost his objectivity on 9/11."

But my 9/11 theory hasn't had much support on this forum, but I still think 9/11 was the catalyst which brought Zogby's antiAmerican/antiIsrael ideology out in the open.

The Washington Times cannot be considered an objective third party when it comes to anything.

This is just another lie-filled Washington Times hit piece.

Bandit is of course correct - the Washington Times is just a propaganda organ.  The article proves nothing at all - it merely makes the odd claim that Zogby's results must not be accurate because he has worked for both labour unions and somone who sued WalMart.  No doubt the same charge could be made about many right-wing pollsters, pundits, and politicians who are in WalMart's pocket.

Naturally Americans would be well aware that WalMart is 'bad for America', but will they do anything about it?  Of course not.  Most are too poor to have any other options anyway, and one need only look at their obese physiques to know that they tend to choose that which is bad for them.

No, WalMart is 'bad for America' certainly, but then America isn't so great in the first place, now is it?

If Zogby really had a sterling reputation, it would be less important.

In this case however, it's Zogby.

Only 2% of Americans have high trust in CEOs, so this isn't a surprise.
