BTW, the US is one of the best nations on Earth, if not the best. If nothing else, everything to the south of us is worse.

In what sense?  The food is better and the women are hotter down there.. there is less prudery..  better weather obviously.   So, I guess you are just talking about money.  I guess one can get a little more by being a worker in the US than 'down there, but then again the cost of living is much higher so it pretty much equals out.

Depends on how you mean better... maybe US food disagrees with you, opebo,  but the US is generally more sanitary and wider choices are available (at least in the major metro areas). It isn't all Stuckey's out there.

The women in southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas are largely as hot as those in northern Mexico. They might be a little fatter because they can get more food for less work, but other than that... this is also an extremely relative position: some people like plump women.

Depends on where. I'm sure Rio isn't all that prude-ish, but most of Central and South America is devoutly Catholic. And even the most fiendish evangelical Christian lacks the sheer anti-fun prudishness of the Islamic countries of the middle east and north Africa.

Depends on where. Hawaii and California have weather that is more like Thailand's than Minnesota's, for instance. And the weather in large parts of Africa and South America is accompanied by extremes of dryness and moisture (rain forests do NOT have good weather!).

The difference is extremely large, opebo. The average worker in Mexico earns less per day than even a minimum-wage earner does in an hour in the US. Aside from things like food, items aren't that much cheaper - or if they are, they're often of lower quality (if you think American cars are bad, look at Indian or Malaysian cars - and even then, you're not going to get a car for 1/20th of the price). The nations I'm talking about average, in terms of per-capita GDP, between $100 and $7,500 per year. At the lower end, it would require a cost of living less than 0.5% of the US's to be reasonable. And it isn't - there are only a certain number of things that can be cheaper, in any case. Land and food might be a lot cheaper, but a car? people in the third world don't have fewer cars because they're environmentalists or hate smoke, they ride on bicycles and motorcycles because they don't have the money to buy a new Tata or Proton, let alone a Ford or a Mercedes.

The Pacific consists of the island nations - you know, like the Phillipines, New Guinea, Micronesia, Tahiti, etc.

Eastern Europe I would think would have poor marks by you in food - few fresh fruits or vegetables, lots of fried lard, etc. Also, the women tend not to be renown for glamour or beauty. They're not bad countries, some of them would be nice if it weren't for the fact that they were raped by first the Nazis and then the Soviets.

Your categories seem to be absurd.

No it would not, at the moment the right isn't as loopy as the left in the US. Which is saying something, btw. A devastating coup could come from any of a dozen sources, from the military to radical university groups (I think eco-terrorism and anarcho-marxism are going to become more common in the future...). BTW if you haven't clued in, the left has its share of fascistic elements too (you, so close to lands once ruled by Pol Pot, should know about that).

Plus, you're way way way oversimplifying things to claim that Jerry Falwell and Pat Buchannan are on 'my' side. It would be like claiming Al, texasgurl, and Ebowed were on your cite. You're using 'With us or against us' rhetoric again - suprising how absolute Marxism can be at times, the poor proletariat always under the bourgeiouse' bootheel, especially in the damned capitalist hell America... Tongue.

opebo, when you die, could you get a scientist to dissect your brain? I would very much like to know how your neural pathways are arranged. Your mind seems to be aligned in an extremely different matter. You're not stupid so much as two-dimensional and thinking sort-of at a tangent. It is no wonder many people think you are a fake- considering how you consider teaching children religion to be horrible indoctrination, but having sexual relations with them normal and acceptable.

Idiot. How can you compare a country like Mexico to a filthy developing nation like Vietnam, or Malasia (pretty rich in my opinion)?
According to the World Bank, Mexico is the 12th nation in the world in regard to GDP and the highest per capita income in that region; and is firmly established as an upper middle-income country. Since the economic debacle of 1994–1995 the country has made an impressive economic recovery. According to the director for Colombia and Mexico of the World Bank, the population below the poverty level has decreased from 24.2% to 17.6% in the general population and from 42% to 27.9% in rural areas.

And how can you compare Mexico:

to The "third world"?

Oh btw, to moderate the euphemistic aspect of the word developing, international organisations have started to use the term least developed countries (LLDCs) for the poorest nations which can in no sense be regarded as developing. That is, LLDCs are the poorest subset of LDCs. This also moderates the naïve tendency to believe that the standard of living in Somalia or Ethiopia is comparable to that in Brazil or Mexico.
So you cannot compare Mexico, a member of the OECD, a league of DEVELOPED countries to a country like Vietnam, or Nicaragua.

<snipped pic out>

1. Overall GDP is nothing when quality of life is considered. It's GDP Per Capita that matters. Interesting comparisons. Malaysia is actually comparible to Mexico (and Kuala Lumpur, after all, houses the Petronas Towers). BTW I do agree about the 'fourth world'. Some nations are even worse off - mainly African ones with a few in central asia. And i never said Mexico was third world. It, like Thailand and Malaysia, is Second World. Basically Mexico and Chile are the wealthiest of the Latin American countries.

Now, for the comparisons, both with nominal GDP and GDP adjusted by Purchasing Power Parity:

Nominal GDP Per Capita:
1    Luxembourg    69,737
2    Norway    54,600
3    Switzerland    49,300
4    Ireland    45,675
5    Denmark    44,808
6    Iceland    41,804
7    United States    39,935
8    Sweden    38,493
9    Qatar    37,610
10    Netherlands    37,326
11    Japan    36,596

The top ten, plus Japan. I can see why you might like Japan.  Most of the big wealthy states are in Northern/Western Europe, with the US and Qatar thrown in.

22    Singapore    24,740

Singapore pwnz Mexico, totally, in the economics field. Prudes can make money, too...

48    Croatia    7,624
50    Mexico    6,494
60    Malaysia    4,646

Mexico and some of its company. Malaysia is about $1800 or so less than Mexico, but from way up in #7 it looks all blurry

84    Thailand    2,521

Opebo, here's Thailand for you. About average, actually. Insanely poor by US standards, but the envy of much of the African continent.

139    Vietnam    535

Vietnam is poor. Not too bad against..

176    Ethiopia    113

Where $1 per day actually IS a very wealthy salary.

PPP GDP Per Capita:
1    Luxembourg    63,609
2    Norway    40,005
3    United States    39,496
4    Ireland    37,663
5    San Marino    34,600
6    Equatorial Guinea    33,994
7    Iceland    33,269
8    Denmark    33,089
9    Canada    32,921
10    Switzerland    31,690
12    Japan    29,906

Opebo, when PPP is taken into effect, US per capita income is actually higher relative to other first-world nations, besting everyone except Luxembourg and Norway. Japan is in 12th. I have no idea what the f**k Equatorial Guinea is doing there. Probably oil money. Ireland's soaring, BTW, the Irish did a little de-regulation in the '80s and now they're kicking ass, having smashed past the Brits.

62    Malaysia    10,423
66    Mexico    9,666

Ha ha... Malaysia beats Mexico!

72    Thailand    7,901

Thailand does better... but PPP-adjusted, Thais are still earn 1/5th as much as Americans do.

131    Vietnam    2,570
183    Ethiopia    814

Vietnam is still dirt poor, but richer than Ethiopia.

Well the GINI Income Distribution Index matters as well.

For example, if 80% or so of overall GDP is concentrated with the upper 20% of the population, than GDP per capita ceases to matter.

The CIA Factbook provides good numbers on these as well.

Okay, Thailand is a very nice country, all told, by Asian standards - it is more accurately a second-world country than a third-world country - but offer unlimited visas to the US and you'd get a lot of takers.

You would get some, from among the poorest.  I'm sure if the poorest Americans were offer Dutch or Swedish citizenship they'd grab it.  Thais are actually not very prone to desiring emmigration - they really, really hate cold weather, western food, and simply being outside of their rather idyllic culture and in an inferior one.

84    Thailand    2,521

Opebo, here's Thailand for you. About average, actually. Insanely poor by US standards, but the envy of much of the African continent.

72    Thailand    7,901

Thailand does better... but PPP-adjusted, Thais are still earn 1/5th as much as Americans do.

I think that PPP is underestimating the amazing cost of living here - My apartment here is $125/month!  That is about 1/4 the cost of the worst apartments in St. Louis.  A typical Thai apartment (they don't particularly care for air conditioning) is about $50/month, which is about 1/10th the cost of a St. Louis apartment (the cheapest ones).  Of course the cost of living is even cheaper upcountry in the provinces and rural areas.

My meals are not only far better than those available in the US, they cost from fifty cents to two dollars - about 1/10th the cost of similar meals in US restaurants.  Again, meals are naturally cheaper upcountry - about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of meals here in the central, developed region.

Of course there is little or no need for a car here, which is a wonderful savings.  Motorbike ownership is preferrable in a country that has excellent weather, and there is the efficient and cheap bus and train service for intercity transport.

In any case, these generalization have little meaning, since the working class is fairly miserable in either country, and the wealthy live in bliss in any land.

I love how his only defense of Mexico is "Canada sucks".  To paraphrase Ed Murrow, we've asked him to give us one thing - anything - good about Mexico, and he has not done so, so we must assume that there isn't anything.

I Purple heart France.. I HATE the US (and Canada).
Anyways... The only thing that is a mental illness is to be proud to be an "American" I wholly agree with opebo. The food here is GROSS, it'll make you fat, and the culture is pure garbage.
Not to mention. While they demonize the muslims, they cuddle with the Jews.

If our country is so horrible, then why are so many of your people in such a rush to get here?

The worthless third world non-white trash come here to abuse the welfare system.

I know! those damn Canadians. Invading Alaska.

Eat some delicious red herring you idiot.

Technically speaking, you're the bigger idiot for bringing that idiot here.

I love how his only defense of Mexico is "Canada sucks".  To paraphrase Ed Murrow, we've asked him to give us one thing - anything - good about Mexico, and he has not done so, so we must assume that there isn't anything.
WE INVENTED COLOUR TV you fool!

The real inventor of the color television was Guillermo Gonzalez Camarena (1917-1965), In 1934 he made his first TV when he was 17 years old, later he patented his color TV in Mexico and the US. From there the invention went to different parts of the world.

HERE is a list of Famous Mexicans. Most have done good for the country.
THe real question is: Give me something JUST ONE good thing about Canada, besides bacon, hockey and Geddy Lee.

Canada provides a role model for the benighted U.S. - a humane, livable, and tolerant North American State.

I don't know, why don't you replace "Mexicans" with "Canadians" and see what you get.

Canadians...

- invented the telephone
- invented the electric light bulb
- invented the alkaline battery
- invented the web language PHP
- discovered insulin
- invented the pacemaker

This list could go on and on.  One should note that the list of Canadians is longer than the list of Mexicans.
