Absurd Richious.  That is like asking a dam holding back a lake to 'work towards a state of affairs where it is no longer needed'.

The moment the union is absent, the owners will return the worker to his natural state in capitalism - subsistence.

Not at all; that only applies if a union is Syndicalist to some degree...

That's actually a very apt comparison.

I don't particularly think that getting to that state of affairs is possible, really, given that if the union packed up and left the moment that such a state of affairs was achieved, there would be nothing stopping the management from then immediately going in reverse.

Ideally, yes. However, realistically such a state of affairs would be impossible as it would require a fundamental change in human nature all around. So, I believe the state should work towards a state of affairs where the state is minimially necessary.

Really?  Because we all know that the working conditions at GM will immediately revert back to 1800s industrial revolution-era conditions, because no laws were passed to improve working conditions.

Production will be moved to China, where working conditions are at least as bad as in the 19th century.

The americans who were previously employed at GM wil then proceed to work at Walmart, McDonalds, and the convenience store.  Their pay will be similarly low to that of a nineteenth century worker, and working conditions will of course be unpleasant.

Unions are terrible, so yes, ideally.  Although the reason they are so terrible, in part, is that their existence perpetuates.

Unions are terrible?  Why do you say this, Sofa?  And why aren't you a republican if you think so?

What kind of union?  A labor union?  Well, in that case, yes.  But if you mean a union as in the European Union or the USA, then no.
