I have another update, yay! Come on people, comment! Smiley

2033

Crane is re-inaugurated, much to the horror of most of the country. He says now that he’s won he “accepts the apology of his party for betraying him”. He then announces he’ll be trying to do what he tried last term, get the US on the “right path”. He tries to push everything through in the first year but with the Republicans regaining Congress they all fail spectacularly.

2034

Crane’s sixth year in office he begins to strengthen ties with the UN such as trying to tie in military tribunals. Most politicians erupt in outrage at the thought of the US not having that power. After this also fails Crane goes into a tirade on TV blasting all political parties, including moderates in the Democratic Party. His approval rating falls to 15%.

2035

Unrest begins in Saudi Arabia after many years of quiet foreign policy. Two forces begin to become increasingly vocal and violent, one is pro democracy and the other is pro Islam. With increasing attacks and the worry of oil being affected the stock market plummets. By late summer as civilians are starting to be caught in the crossfire as many die and even more are wounded. Crane announces the US won’t do anything as it’s not our problem. Hawks on both sides blast him though polls show that the public doesn’t support intervention. Stocks do begin to rise though as oil production isn’t affected with the thousands of Saudi troops guarding the oil fields.

2036

Even with polls showing that Crane has a 15% approval rating he announces he will be running for re-election with Bruce Revan. The Republicans, Libertarians and even most Democrats agree that Crane needs to go down, now. They all know what happened last time when they ran a candidate so they choose to run a coalition ticket. Republican George P. Bush is chosen to be President  while Deuce Man gets another chance to be VP. It is also agreed that the Cabinet will be a split of the three parties. Crane is furious when he hears this, and is absolutely livid when he even loses the Democratic Primary to George P. Bush and the collation ticket. Crane is then forced to run again as an “Independent Democrat”.  Polls show that it isn’t even close as Crane goes down in a massive landslide losing with 15% of the vote and winning only two states and DC.

Here's an update, and come on people, comment! Smiley

2037

Bush and Man are sworn in while President Crane refuses to come to the ceremony. Now that Crane is defeated some are worried that he’s Hispanic and might be weak on illegal immigration. He immediately proves his detractors wrong as he makes a speech in favor of the boarder fence and gets through Congress rather quickly more funding for the northern boarder.

2038

After being quiet for over a year the Saudi Civil War heats up again as all sides begin a new bloodbath in the streets. They also begin to attack the oil drilling stations prompting President Bush to send in thousands of troops to protect them, which works wonderfully. Oil production continues as normal while the rest of the country is still convulsing with fighting. President Bush announces that all sides are evil since they’re all attacking civilians and he refuses to take any action and let the civil war run its course. This move is immensely popular. Republicans gain a slim majority in the House.

2039

Congress passes a bill allowing Puerto Rico to again vote on statehood in December. The civil war continues to worsen as the US and UN continue to not enter though as the bloodshed rises people are beginning to change their opinion on it and believe the US should go in and take out all sides and install a democracy. In December Puerto Rico votes for statehood and chooses to become the 51st state by 52-48% and enters the US with 8 electoral votes.

2040

President Bush announces he’s running for re-election and extends a hand to the Democrats to keep the coalition going but they refuse. (The Libertarians have basically disappeared, the main bulk of them returned to the Republican party while the extreme ones stayed in the party, returning it to third party status) Bush chooses Libertarian Douglas Thompson of Wisconsin regardless. Deuce Man again secures the Democratic nomination relatively easily and chooses Iowa Governor Max Burns. The race isn’t too close however as Bush cruises in to an easily re-election thanks to previous Republican areas and Hispanics voting en masse for him.

Deuce Man/Max Burns (D): 159

Polls show that it isn’t even close as Crane goes down in a massive landslide losing with 15% of the vote and winning only two states and DC.

I don't think it's terribly likely that any states would be won at all if he got only 15% of the vote.  McGovern got 37.52% of the vote and only won one single state.

Most of Crane's support came from the NE by then so the 15% he got came from Vermont, Massachusetts and DC.

And, an update as promised. Smiley And I want comments!  *NOTE* Puerto Rico won't go on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans *NOTE*

2041

Bush is re-inaugurated with VP Thompson. A pro-democracy has arisen in the Saudi Civil War which refuses to attack the civilian population and has been gaining a lot of ground, controlling a quarter of the country and bringing peace in those areas by mid-spring. President Bush and Congress throw support behind this faction, supplying it with weapons and non-military aid. By the end of the year the pro-democracy faction has gained complete control of the country and set up a new government. The US withdraws troops from the oil fields  but keeps supplying aid.

2042

Though hydrogen/oxygen cars are very common now they are still very expensive and are quite costly to repair. Because of this President Bush proposes that there should be another set of cars, those that run entirely on products that are grown and replaced.  Plans begin moving to have sugar used in the south and corn used for the rest of the country. Further showing his moderate side Bush proposes a Universal Healthcare system for children and those below the poverty line who are unemployed. A coalition of Democrats and moderate Republicans pass it in the Senate but it gets stalled in the House. Come election time Democrats take a 22 seat majority in the House and no gains are seen in the Senate.

2043

When the new Congress meets for the first time the House immediately passes the Universal Healthcare Act giving the nation its first healthcare coverage. Liberals want full coverage though most Americans are happy that something has been done and Bush’s popularity rises. A complete peace has fallen over Saudi Arabia as it has been stable for well over a year. It moves into close ties with the US and the West.

2044

President Bush is extremely popular, standing at 80% approval. He announces early that he will be running for re-election. The Democrats know they have no chance of winning the election with those numbers so they make another coalition deal with the Republicans to have a mixed cabinet. In June VP Thompson announces he will run for the open Senate seat in Wisconsin and won’t run again for Vice President. With this slot open Bush chooses Deuce Man for this spot again. On election day the Bush/Man ticket wins 83% of the vote and Douglas Thompson is indeed able to win a seat in the Senate. Bush wins all 50 states but DC, unwilling to vote for a Republican, gives its votes to the Green Party ticket of former President and Vice President Nelson Crane and Bruce Revan.

And another update, and please comment! Smiley *NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans *NOTE*

2045

Bush is re-inaugurated for his third term. In the Middle East trouble is brewing once again. Iran and Syria, long quiet, have been gearing up for war. They join with Lebanon, Yemen and the many terrorist groups in the area such as Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. declare war on Israel. Meanwhile President Bush has formed an alliance of Western countries to combat them including the Middle Eastern countries of Jordan, Iraq, Afghanistan Kuwait, Arabia (since the civil war and the overthrow of the Saud family they are now known only as Arabia), etc. War breaks out on Christmas.

2046

Conventional battles are waged throughout Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran launches waves of missiles against the allied countries but they are mostly spared thanks to the anti-ballistic missile shields installed years earlier. The war is supported by Americans across the political spectrum except for those on both extremes. By the end of the year Lebanon has been conquered by Israel and Yemen by Arabia while Syria and Iran have been greatly weakened. Republicans make minimal gains in the midterms.

2047

Israel officially annexes Lebanon while Arabia annexes Yemen. President Bush comes out in support while the other countries don’t seem to mind. By the end of summer Syria and Iran have been conquered and temporarily governments installed as they start along the path to democracy. Since he’s getting up there in age President Bush announces he won’t seek re-election even though he’d like to. This opens up the floodgates as hordes of people announce for both parties.

2048

While the primaries are ongoing the alliance members in the Middle East have finished mopping up the terrorist organizations involved in the war and peace is mostly obtained. From some of the captured terrorist combatants they learn that the US’s biggest enemy from the past, Osama Bin Laden, has died decades before. In the political world Deuce Man is easily able to secure the Democratic nomination and chooses Arkansas Governor Jim Piedmont for VP. The Republicans take longer to decide their candidate but they eventually settle on LA Mayor Brian Williams and Wyoming Representative Cynthia Carlton for VP. On election day:

Brian Williams/Cynthia Carlton (R): 216
Deuce Man/Jim Piedmont (D): 330

The third time is the charm as Deuce Man finally becomes President while bringing in one more Democratic Senator to give the Democrats a 58-41-1 Senate majority.

And another update, need comments! *NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2049

Deuce man is sworn in as President. He makes a long speech about how thankful he is for the voters to finally choose him. He promises bipartisanship and cites his working with Republicans. Tensions begin to rise in Europe between France and Germany from the mysterious death of the recently elected French President. The democracies set up in Iran and Syria seems to have stuck with sporadic insurgent activities. A treaty is signed between Arabia and Oman in which Oman agrees to be annexed by Arabia.

2050

With tempers flaring President Man and the UK’s Conservative Prime Minister David Burke fly to Switzerland to try and mediate an agreement between France and Germany. Early on the first day Man and Burke and shunned and told to go home. They leave the continent disgusted and leave the countries to work it out on their own. Three amendments pass Congress by the end of the year, one that bans flag burning, one that bans abortion except in cases of rape, incest or if the mother’s life is in danger and one that bans gay marriage. Liberals around the country are enraged and try to turn to the states to defeat all three of these amendments. France declares war on Germany after their President’s death was confirmed to have been a German assassination. French tank and troops enter Germany.

2051

President Man makes it clear on New Years Day that the US will stay out of the French-German War. France suffers a tremendous defeat just over the Rhine River and have to retreat into France itself while Germany plans its own invasion. The abortion ban amendment is ratified by 2/3rds of the states by the end of May making it the 29th amendment. In October President Man announces he will run for re-election, at the exact same time Germany launches its long awaited offense into France. Within a few weeks the French army is shattered and its air force and navy destroyed. Germany captures Paris and announces it hasn’t decided what to do with France yet.

2052

President Man calls for Germany to just leave France but Germany ignores them on it though they still haven’t decided what to do yet. It places France under temporary occupation. During the Republican primaries it’s a repeat the last election as the Republicans again nominate the ticket of Brian Williams and Cynthia Carlton. With the onset of fall President Man has a massive heart attack making Jim Piedmont become acting President for a few days. The night that President Man comes home he makes a national televised announcement saying that he’s dropping out of the Presidential race because of his health and is greatly saddened. He gives the spot to Jim Piedmont to try and win his own race but says he will stay on as President for the rest of his term. VP Piedmont chooses Representative Randy Stevenson of Texas for the VP slot. On election day:

Brian Williams/Cynthia Carlton (R): 160
Jim Piedmont/Randy Stevenson (D): 386

The Piedmont campaign shocks the political nation by being the first Democrat to carry Texas since Jimmy Carter in 1976.

A couple of questions:

1. Why is the political landscape exactly the same in 2052 as it is in 2008?  Forty years is a long time, and I don't think that would happen.

2. With Democrats having such a large majority in the Senate, how would those amendments pass, especially gay marriage and abortion?

And just as a note, it takes 3/4 of the states to pass an amendment, something that would never happen for abortion.

Unless France has a 6th Republic by then or the President elected in 2047 resigns/dies, we're not having elections in 2049.

Hmmm.... maybe there was an amendment to make the official religion of the United States Roman Catholicism.

Update! Grin *NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2053

Jim Piedmont is inaugurated and promises bipartisan cooperation. Besides creating a budget President Piedmont doesn’t propose any legislation and doesn’t do any traveling. Middle Eastern countries begin talking about creating a great democracy to give the Middle East a greater position of power in the world. Germany let France go free even though some hardliners want to keep the whole country. Germany forces a settlement for millions of dollars a year.

2054

Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Egypt form the Middle Eastern Republic. Though it is mostly seen as positive some worry about such a large country having control over that much oil. President Piedmont again makes no foreign trips and does nothing legislative wise letting the Senate take the lead. He does plan two trips for the following year, to Canada and Mexico. Cynthia Carlton becomes Senator from Wyoming in the mid-terms. President Piedmont shows his blue dog side and he funnels most of the money to conservative Democrats.

2055

Sudan and Libya agree to join the MER. Israel signs a treaty of friendship and nonaggression with the new country and it looks like tensions begin to ease as the West Bank and the Gaza strip join in June. President Piedmont’s trips goodwill trips go well and once he returns to the US he announces he’ll run for re-election. Some people grumble since he hasn’t done much of anything as President.

2056

The MER declares that it will enter the still anarchy ridden Somalia and restore order before annexing the country. Nobody makes a sound about it because Somalia has been a disaster for decades. President Piedmont receives no primary challengers and begins his re-election campaign early. The Republicans continue to follow tradition and nominate Wyoming Senator Cynthia Carlton, the first woman to try for the Presidency since Hillary Clinton’s failed campaign in 2008. She chooses Delaware Governor Peter Schmidt for VP. The race is long and extremely close since President Piedmont has done nothing in his Presidency so people neither approve nor disapprove of him. On election night a wacky election takes place.

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 304
Jim Piedmont/Randy Stevenson (D): 242

Experts come to the conclusion that Carlton won because of Piedmont’s do nothing Presidency and blue dog image which made some on the far left switched to the Green Party this election cycle.

Green is MER, brown is coutnries which should be very scared for their territorial integrity.

From what country is the President of the MER? I know you know what a silly idea it is and how many geopolitical considerations there are against it, so I won't bother commenting on that aspect.

Oman and Yemen were already part of Arabia so they are part of it anyway. Israel includes Lebanon as well.

And yes I know, but still, Tongue

NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2057

Cynthia Carlton is inaugurated and becomes the first woman President of the U.S. She promises to fight for conservative ideals but also to work closely with the opposition to get things done. In March the UAE decides to join the MER after waiting enough time to see if the country would succeed. The first Presidential elections are held in the MER. A provisional counsel governed the country previously. Hamzah bin Al Hussein, the previous King and current Governor of Jordan is chosen to be President after he runs away with the vote. President Carlton travels and meets the new President and comes away hopeful.

2058

On the first of the year the MER announces another, and final expansion. Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco (not Western Sahara), Djibouti, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan join. Israel also gives up Lebanon and allows them to join as well after securing certain trading rights and access to cheaper oil. Many people around the world are concerned about this but nothing comes of it. Cuba’s dictatorship finally falls. President Carlton sends in troops to keep the calm after being asked to by pro-democracy groups. In the midterms Republicans make gains but the Democrats keep control of both houses.

2059

President Carlton gets a tax cut passed after tying it into dropping sanctions on Cuba, Democrats don’t like it but can do nothing about it. A pro-democracy, pro-US group gains enough popularity to be come into power and schedule free elections the following year in March. President Carlton makes an African trip and signs new agreements for many forms of aid many conservatives don’t like this but it helps solidify Carlton’s image as a moderate.

2060

In January the pro-US candidate in Cuba, Jorge de le Rosa wins 60-20-15-5 after campaigning on a platform of being annexed by the U.S. This comes as a shock to almost all political experts in the U.S. Not being sure what to do President Carlton comes out in support of annexation, though the Congress still needs to pass it. In March President Carlton announces she’ll be running for re-election and campaigns for annexation which seems to be rather popular. In the Democratic Primary blue dog former VP Randy Stevenson wins after having to take it all the way to the convention to beat out liberal New York Governor William “Billy” Brown. Stevenson then picks Brown’s biggest rival, New York Senator Raymond Burns for VP, hurting his campaign even more. All polls show President Carlson with a commanding lead with the country still have a bad taste in their mouths after the Democratic Primaries. On election night:

Cynthia Carlton/Peter Schmidt (R): 396
Randy Stevenson/Raymond Burns (D): 150

President Carlton landslides into a second term while bring the House back into Republican hands.

NOTE* Puerto Rico can't be on the map anymore, it went to the Republicans. *NOTE*

2061

Carlton is inaugurated for her second term. She immediately sets the senate on annexing Cuba. Debate rages on whether we should annex despite Carlton throwing her massive political capital behind it. In the end most Republicans vote for annexation while most Democrats vote against. Cuba enters the union as a territory on June 1st. China invades and annexes Mongolia in mid-summer. The international community condemns the Chinese while Korea, Japan and Taiwan go on red alert. President Carlton goes to Cuba to meet the new U.S. citizens and meet with elected officials. She comes away with a timetable to make Cuba a state by the year 2065.

2062

China begins building up its army, navy and air force as it declares itself a full fledged world power. The next day they invade and annex Nepal and Bhutan. The countries around China go on red alert and move troops to the boarder as a precaution. President Carlton travels to Asia and meets in an emergency summit in Japan with many countries attending. They discuss China’s actions and future possibilities. When Carlton returns to the U.S. she campaigns hard for Republicans who make large gains in Congress thanks to her popularity.

2063

VP Schmidt makes a goodwill trip to Canada where he meets with leaders in Ottawa. Before going back he makes a secret trip to Toronto that not even the media find out about. Upon returning to the U.S. he immediately meets with President Carlton to report back. China begins slowly moving troops into Tibet and Fuzhou which alarms countries in the region, especially after China begins to draft and train millions of country peasants and the cities poor. President Carlton meets with the President of Taiwan in a video conference and she pledge’s that an attack on Taiwan would be considered an attack on the U.S. The U.S. and Russia begin a joint project to build a roadway to connect the Bearing Strait, plans are for it to be deep underwater to have it be protected from the worst of the region’s weather.

2064

Early in the year President Carlton announces she will run for a third term with VP Schmidt. China declares that it has been attacked within its boarders by MER soldiers and declares war. They move troops into Northeastern MER and have little success as the mountainous region greatly slows them down and the front basically comes to a standstill. The U.S. and the rest of the world condemn the decision and begin sending aid to the MER along with weapons and other arms. The Democrats have a weak field of candidates but eventually settle on California Governor Gerald Murphy who chooses Hawaii Senator Peter Nguyen for VP. The Democrats are doomed to failure as President Carlton has a 65% approval rating and she’s aided by the fact that people are extremely nervous about the situation in Asia.
