Future of America

Well it's my turn to start one of these, we'll see how for I go and what I do but it should be a ways. Enjoy!
2007
The Presidential primaries heat up as the Democrats are split between the liberal base and moderate elements while the Republicans have distanced themselves from President Bush even though he has an approval rating in the mid to upper forties. Pundits consider both primaries to be extremely close.
2008
After a string of early primary wins Senator Hillary Clinton emerges as the victor and chooses former Governor Mark Warner for the VP slot. Though it is extremely close the impressive early wins in Iowa and New Hampshire gives former WI Governor and Sec. of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson the nomination as he swiftly chooses Senator George Allen for his VP slot. The polls show an extremely close race going in to election day. While the popular vote holds true to this the electoral vote isn’t as close.
Tommy Thompson/George Allen (R): 307
Hillary Clinton/Mark Warner (D): 231

Here's an update.
2009
Troop reductions begin in Iraq as half the troops come home. The country is mostly stable with a few sporadic attacks every so often. With troops coming home Thompson’s approval raises a little to 58%. Then in a shocking announcement Senator Russ Feingold of WI introduces an amendment that repeals the 22nd amendment and allows Presidents to run for as many terms as they like. It passes Congress by the end of the year.
2010
All but a thousand troops are brought home, the ones that aren’t are to remain there permanently. Thomson’s approval raises again 61%. By the years end only one more state is required to pass the 28th amendment.
2011
The world is relatively quiet until May when Israel bombs Iranian nuclear sites. Iran had been gearing up for war and Israel had been getting nervous. Iran along with most of the Middle East goes into a frenzy and President Thompson tells any nation that any attack on Israel will be considered an attack on the US. Iran backs down after going to the brink. The last state ratifies the 28th amendment on the same day that Senator Feingold announces his intention to run for President. President Thompson he will seek re-election as well.
2012
In fierce primaries Feingold comes out on top and chooses Mark Warner again for Vice President. Polls show that Thompson has a comfortable lead but that slowly starts to whittle away as November draws near. Thankfully to both sides this year is also another quiet one. On election day Wisconsin becomes very close as Thompson wins it by thirty five votes! Besides that though this is Thompson’s day as he gains one more state than in 2008.
Tommy Thompson/George Allen (R): 328
Russ Feingold/Mark Warner (D): 210

And another 4 years.
2013
Thompson and Allen are re-inaugurated. The Democratic Party is in turmoil with moderates trying to gain the party back from the far left. They fail for now. After years of being average to moderately good the economy starts going higher. A bill passes the Senate that would construct a three fence barrio between the US and Mexico while allowing all illegal’s already in the US, minus felons, to stay along with allowing more people to immigrate in. President Thompson signs it and construction begins.
2014
By this time new space shuttles and equipment has been designed and tested. The return to the moon and the construction of the first lunar base will be scheduled for July 15, four years before China will be able to. Democrats lose seats in Congress to the dismay of the far left whose control is slowly crumbling.
2015
The lunar launch the previous year was a successful and the construction is on schedule. President Thompson announces he will run for re-election. There are some people wary about this but Thompson goes unchallenged. The Democratic primary is packed as the inter-party war continuous.
2016
The far left wins again to the dismay of the moderates. Al Gore wins and chooses John Kerry to be VP. Though both are really old men they are heroes of the far left and they believe they are their saviors. Moderates and independents gag on this ticket and flock to President Thompson by the hundreds, guaranteeing him another four years and a landslide victory.
Tommy Thompson/George Allen (R): 392
Al Gore/John Kerry (D): 146
With this landslide loss moderates are able to regain the leadership positions of the Democratic Party.

I agree. The Democrats barring breakup or disaster will not stay out of power for that long. 12 years max, but no more.

I like how you had Feingold repeal the 22nd amendment; that certainly wasn't just so you could have three terms of Thompson.

Another update. See people, you must have patience.
2017
Thompson and Allen are re-inagurated again. Thompson announces at this time that the boarder fence has been completed after a four month delay. Illegal immigration starts to slowly slack off though it’s still a big problem. Some people in Congress consider allowing a vote in Puerto Rico for statehood but nothing comes of it as this time. Chechnya finally gains its independence from Russia, a mostly democratic government is formed.
2018
After much construction and many launches the first lunar base is completed, work begins on the second. A new space bill passes Congress which calls for a couple of satallite and telescope stations along with another lunar base on the far side of hte moon. China’s moon shuttle explodes in the upper atmosphere setting them back years. Kim Jong Il is assassinated by a mob on December 31.
2019
The North Korean government falls apart with massive riots convulsing the country. South Korea sends troops north, calming the country and uniting the two Korea’s after over fifty years. President Thompson announces he won’t run for re-election and he encourages future Presidents to only go for three terms.
2020
After being held out for twelve years the conservative part of the GOP gives the nod to Rick Santorum and Jeb Bush. Though the far left puts up a good fight the Democrats nominate Evan Bayh and Mark Warner. Santorum campaigns that his party has taken the country in a mostly right direction the last twenty years and for no more space spending. Bayh goes for a moderate Democratic platoform along with staying the courst in space. On election night:
Rick Santorum/Jeb Bush (R): 163
Evan Bayh/Mark Warner (D): 375

Good story Master Jedi. Interesting reading.
If a President could in fact seek more than two terms, my own view is that for the third election, they would likely choose a different running mate for Vice President other than the one they had already for eight years. That would help to renew or reinvigorate the ticket, if you will. I can't imagine anyone wanting to be Vice President for more than eight years.
I do like the fact that in real life the President is limited to two terms, or two consecutive terms, however that may be interpreted.

I'll be continuing this now, and I have some new ideas which will make themselves known in the next update. Enjoy!
2021
Bayh is inaugurated spectacularly with much flourish and fanfare around the country from the long held out of power Democrats. Bayh immediately gets to work on a national health care system but Congress is deadlocked, nobody will budge and the bill dies. Large funding is also passed to rebuild the highway system of America, much to the dismay of the right. Work is finished on the second lunar base, work on the third begins.
2022
Bayh begins an around the world tour with many stops in Europe, Africa and Asia. Everything is going well until Asia where Bayh becomes dangerously ill in India and is rushed to the hospital. He dies a few days later from tainted water shocking the nation and the world. An investigation is launched and no wrongdoing or harmful intentions were found. Mark Warner is inaugurated as President as he finishes out Bayh’s tour. When he returns to Washington he chooses North Carolina Senator Matt Harlem to replace him as VP. The rest of the year is quiet as the world mourns the loss of President Bayh as his funeral is held in DC. The results in the mid-term elections are shocking, every incumbent wins and no changes are made. Congress remains deadlocked.
2023
The third lunar base is finished in record time on the far side of the moon for observation and experimentation. Three more are planned to bring the total up to six but the public is now beginning to sour on the idea as more tax money is needed. In an effort to save public opinion Warner reduces the base total by one, saving billions. The world is still peacefully quiet with no major problems occurring. Warner announces he’ll run for President but for only one term because of his age. After that he’ll be retiring to Virginia.
2024
The Republicans want to return to power but have a lot stacked up against them, most importantly a popular Democratic President whose approval rating stands at 58% and no viable candidates. They eventually choose newly elected Oregon Governor Steven Wilmont and he chooses Alabama Lieutenant Governor Jack Chickaw. By late October it’s clear that Wilmont/Chickaw can’t win as Warner/Harlem cruise to win. They do lose Oregon and Indiana(because Indiana was only winnable for Bayh) but pick up more states than Bayh won last time.
Steven Wilmont/Jack Chickaw (R): 143
Mark Warner/Matt Harlem (D): 395

2025
Mark Warner is re-inaugurated and has an impressive 62% approval rating. The liberal-moderate fractions in the Democratic Party begin to squabble more. Each faction wants complete control of the leadership, especially the far-left liberals who believe they are the purists. The moderate faction points to the fact that no liberal candidate has won in decades while the liberal faction says that they hold most of the Democratic seats in Congress but with Warner as President the moderates keep mostly in control of the leadership. Some far-left liberals talk about taking their faction and joining the Green party, they decline en masse because of the Democratic losses that would create.
2026
Communists gain control of Panama and close the Panama Canal to shipping. Reluctantly Warner sends in troops to recapture the canal but to leave the democratically elected government alone. Though Panama objects they can do little about it while hawks on both sides of the aisle demand that Warner “finish the job he started”. While Warner doesn’t do this he officially reclaims the Panama Canal as US territory. This helps the Democrats gain a 5 seat majority in the House and a 2 seat majority in the Senate.
2027
The first practical hydrogen/oxygen cars are unveiled. Though they are pricey they will be able to solve the oil problem in under a decade if everyone converts sooner rather than later. With a few Democrats crossing over drilling is finally opened in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to get us a little more off foreign oil until the hydrogen/oxygen cars take over. As Warner said before he declines to run for re-election due to his age.
2028
Many Democrats run but they finally choose liberal New York Governor Nelson Crane for President and moderate Nevada Senator Deuce Man for VP. The Republicans have an equally bruising primary season but eventually uniting behind Alabama Lieutenant Governor and former VP Candidate Jack Chickaw and Mississippi Senator Burt Lansing. The race is tight but in the end the Democrats win by the barest margin.
Jack Chickaw/Burt Lansing (R): 254
Nelson Crane/Deuce Man (D): 284
After the election Crane makes a major speech in which he says we should tear down the boarder fence, return the Panama Canal to Panama and pay reparations to them for taking it along with creating a universal health care system with raising taxes massively on the rich. His approval rating falls to 41% before even entering office.

2029
Crane is inaugurated and surprises many of pundits by actually going through with his plans though he’s stopped short almost immediately when his plan of returning the Panama Canal fails in the Senate with a vote of 3 in favor to 97 against. Crane then goes on national television and says the Senate has done wrong and demands that US forces leave the canal area. Congress refuses and the military actually goes forward and topples the Communist government further weakening Crane.
2030
VP Man distances himself from Crane though is still working behind the scene for the administration. Crane next goes for the destruction of the boarder fence though this fails as well 5-95. Crane is furious again but he can do nothing about it. The last two lunar bases are now finished after many delays. The Republicans win back the House but the Democrats keep a one seat majority in the Senate.
2031
Universal Health Care is what Crane tackles in this third year and it actually has a chance of passing. After two votes the same bill is rejected by the House and passes in the Senate. With nobody willing to budge the bill failure is only a matter of time. Crane announces he will run for re-election but VP Man announces he will run for the position to save the Democratic Party. A 29th amendment passes Congress and is ratified by the states by the end of the year. It makes it so that for a candidate for President to win he just needs to have the most electoral votes, not a majority. Some very vocal Congressman are complaining about the Electoral College, to appease them but still keep it the 29th amendment which has whoever wins the most Electoral Votes wins the Presidential election, there need to no electoral majority.
2032
After a very tough and bruising primary Deuce Man wins the Democratic nomination by winning only one more delegate than Crane. Undaunted Crane runs his own incumbent campaign choosing Montpelier Mayor Bruce Revan for his VP while Man chooses Washington Congressman Joseph Streeder for VP. He says he’s still a Democrat but running independently because of “the betrayal by his party”. The Republicans have an uncompetitive primary choosing for VP candidate Burt Lansing for President and Former Nebraska Governor Curt Warner for VP. A surprise happens in this election though as a large libertarian faction in the Republican Party unites with the actual Libertarian Party. They nominate current Tomah Mayor Douglas Thompson, son of former President Tommy Thompson, for President and Walter Reid of Massachusetts for VP hoping to capture on former President Thompson’s popularity. The race is extremely tight as Election Day dawns.
Burt Lansing/Curt Warner (R): 203
Deuce Man/Joseph Streeder (D): 68
Nelson Crane/Bruce Revan (ID): 230
Douglas Thompson/Walter Reid (L): 42
