% of the time a party has controlled the Senate seats of a certain state from 1956 through 2006. Because there are two senate seats per state, each year served by a Senator of a certain party basically accounts for one percent.

Thats interesting. Is Nebraska about to go very light red if Nelson is re-elected in 2006? Virginia is a surprise to me; I guess there will be no Democrats there until 2008 if Warner retires and Allen is elected President.

No... as long as the Nebraska delegation is split, its color will just move closer and closer to the light blue that indicates over 50% GOP...

Another senate map

>30% - neither of the states senators born in that state
>50% - one of the two senators born in the state
>70% - both of the senators born in that state
blue - no senators

Numbers of senators born in each state
>30 = 0
>40 = 1
>50 = 2
>60 = 3
>70 = 4
>80 = 5

*Includes Menendez instead of Corzine. McCain (AZ) and Martinez (FL) not born in any of the states or DC. Warner born in DC.

These are really interesting maps.  Can you divulge the source of this data?

I looked at every Senator's profile on Wikipedia. I organized the data by city of birth, which I could then use to find state.

Top cities
5-New York
3-Indianapolis
3-Honolulu
