I oppose them. They demean those whom it is claimed they will help and they also take away the rights of the employer to hire who they wish.

I'm certainly not opposed to them, though I think they are probably a little excessively invasive for ordinary business.  As a requirement for any government contracting though, they are fine.

Quotas are much worse than affirmative action.  I completely oppose quotas.

In some cases, I support affirmative action and I would regard quotas as a last resort.

What about the fact that they would force a company to turn down qualified workers in lieu of manufactured diversity?

They are neither better nor worse than any other form of affirmative action.

I presume that they're talking about a policy something along the line of this:

"Each company must have at least 12% of their employees being black, at least 10% of their employees being Hispanic, at least 3% of their employees being Asian, and at least 2% of their employees being of some other race not mentioned, other than white."

I can understand opposing them equally, but don't you think racial quota affirmative action is a bit dumber than socioeconomic affirmative action?  The former assumes that all minorities are diadvantaged; the latter acutally assumes that disadvantaged people are disadvantaged.

Hmm. Interesting point. I see all affirmative action policies the same. They're harmful and cumbersome to the economy.

i would support such a policy in higher education, at least in state universities.

im not so sure id support it for private employers.
