Say what you want about Burma, but it will be one of the last places ruined by Americanization.

Central Antarctica probably will be even later.  Why don't you move there?

Of course I meant a 'culture' that will be one of the last ruined by Americanization, not merely a useless, empty piece of land, Alcont.

The fascist dictatorship will remain long in power.

No, I missed Thai girls, and Thai people and culture in general.

There was all the same technology in Madagascar, at least for my use - airplanes, air conditioned hotels, internet shops, etc.  (though certainly there was less of this stuff, and more foreigner-oriented than in Thailand).

If one faces facts one must admit that most Mongolians have much nicer bodies than most ehite men. Compare the firm-knit silken skin of the Burman, which does not wrinkle at all till he is past forty, and then merely withers up like a piece of dry leather, with the coarse-grained, flabby, sagging skin of the white man. The white man has lank ugly hair growing down his legs and the backs of his arms and in an ugly patch on his chest. The Burman has only a tuft or two of stiff black hair at the appropriate places; for the rest he is quite hairless and is usually beardless as well. The white man almost always goes bald, the Burman seldom or never. The Burman's teeth are perfect, though generally discoloured by betel juice, the white man's teeth invariably decay. The white man is generally ill-shaped, and when he grows fat he bulges in improbable places; the Mongol has beautiful bones and in old age he is almost as shapely as in youth. Admittedly the white races throw up a few individuals who for a few years are supremely beautiful; but on the whole, say what you will, they are far less comely than orientals.

Because there is an American scientific base right at the South Pole!!

And the scientists there stopped taking ice core samples and started drilling for oil ever since Bush took office...

also, there's a Starbucks there...

and it's not U.S. territory, so there's no minimum wage...

Too bad.  The country has been ruined to the point where it might have been better had it remained a British Commonwealth.

One of the few countries that would be better off if it remained a colony.

Well, the problem is with English orthography actually. Burma, Birma and even Barma are all just approximations to the pronounciation, thence they went for a totally different name. Of course another reason is that Börma ( Smiley ) like Iran has a dominant ethic group that is only about 40-odd% of the population, and it's a little unfortunate to name the country for it. Persia had the advantage of having an ancient, never out of use alternative name.
