Thats an understatement. He's a great campaigner, but has no idea how to behave once he's in office.

Remember when all the press wore their 'jackal' nametags on newscasts?
That was great

Ventura was entertaining and was not afraid to state his opinion. Non-political types were enamored with that, they didn't really care what his positions on the issues were.

Ventura seemed like a good libertarian to me. He'd probably make a better president than any Democrat or most Republicans.

I voted for him in 1998 for governor and if he or Schwarzenegger ran for president, they'd get my vote.
Why? Barring the LP gaining popularity, they are the closest people to libertarians that have a good chance of winning. Arnold is working with the advice of two libertarians right now to reform the Cali government. Cali will be in better shape in a few years (if Arnold gets re-elected) than it has in 40 years.

Eh....Ventura wouldn't be nominated by either party, and Independents probably will never again have a shot to win an election.

I have tapes of Ventura announcing with the late great Gorilla Monsoon at Six Wrestlemanias, and Every week on WWF's Saturday Night Main Event with Vince McMahon. I just could never see him as President.

I'd love to vote for him. He was one of my favorite heel commentators:
EXCERPT FROM WRESTLEMANIA V:
Jake Roberts VS Andre The Giant
MONSOON: Why shouldn't Jake (The Snake Roberts) be allowed to bring Damian into the ring?
VENTURA: That would be an unfair advantage, and you know it.
MONSOON: (Reffering to Andre The Giant's manager, Bobby Heenan) There's an unfair advantage for Andre, he's got blonde hair and a blue jacket.
VENTURA: Bobby Heenan hasn't gotten involved, why should the snake be allowed?
MONSOON: Well, Jake needs something to fight against Andre.
VENTURA: You admit he can't compete!
MONSOON: Well, what if Heenan did?
VENTURA: C'mon, Gorilla! Quit playing such favorites!...
MONSOON: If the shoe fits, put it on is what I say!
VENTURA: Y'know I used to like broadcasting with you, now you're getting worse than McMahon.
MONSOON: I am?
I always liked them together. I miss the late Gorilla Monsoon who passed away in 1999. They were quite a tandem together. I'd love to hear Ventura's State of the union address.

Too conservative? His proposed spending increases would have put Arnie Carlson, a liberal Republican, too shame.

Ventura was not a liberatarian, but rather a libertine who was somewhat fiscally liberal.
Minnesota was tired of his antics and has a results his polling numbers in 02 was below 40%. The main reason he did not run again for governor.

Jesse won with only 37% of the vote in the first place. Polling below 40% would not mean that he would've lost, and I would've voted for him again because he's better than any of the other choices, save a libertarian.

No, I say. Jesse Ventura reminds me of Walter Joseph Hickel, who ran for govenor of Alaska in the Alaskan Independence Party ticket.
He was a great candidate, but of course he wasn't expecting to win, and when he did, his term of office was desastrous.

I have to agree with you. Ventura paraded himself as a libertarian, but didn't govern as one. He may have had a chance in a 3-way race in 2002, but my vote and the victory still would have gone with Pawlenty I believe.
