Well we'll probably have expanded NAFTA/strenghend it to the point where mexico, canada and the carribean are all states. States rights will be dead and we'll be centralized. Gays will have been long accepted and some other group(robots/clones) gets made the subject of persecution/controversy. Marijuana will probably have been legal for decades.

Too many events could possibly occur in that time period to make an accurate prediciton.

In 2050 the US will be declared the winner of our game of civilization on a points victory.  We will then have a massive, massive war to wipe the slate clean and start over.

Boo! I want us to have a space victory or a cultural victory by then.

Seriously though I would predict that we would be part of a world government by then assuming the Earth hasn't been destroyed by natural or artificial means.

The same governmentally but we'll have finally gotten Canada.

Americans don't want Canadians and Canadians don't want Americans; you can give that one up right now. Tongue

Who said anything about Americans and Candians living amongst each other?  We just want the land and mineral resources.  Obviously, the Candians will be moved to some remote island in the North Sea where they can play their ice sports all day.  Or perhaps we can move them to a far away desert.  There is actually already precedent for Americans moving large numbers of Canadians to remote desert, when we moved the Winnipeg Jets to Phoenix.

The United States will not exist in 2106 and I doubt it will make it much past 2075 or so.

This nation will be fragmented into various nation states or city states by that point in time.

Although I understand why you see it that way, Jeff, I have to disagree. We'll be about the same, except we'll all be dead.

That vaguely sounds like something Terry Pratchett would write.

Terry Who? I honestly don't know him, but would be willing to read into him, because he seems to agree with me.

Are we the same now as we were 100 years ago? Not really. Much has changed, technology has revolutionized things. Their could be a technology backlash which could slow things down quite a bit or their could be a few more huge tech revolutions which could spread us throughout the solar system with the concept of a "nation state" buried in the ashpit of history. I, personally am hoping for the later but with the way things go the former seems far more likely.

Terry Pratchett writes the Discworld series and is my favorite humor writer of all time.  You'd probably like his stuff.

From what it sounds like, Gabu, I probably would. Oh, Jeff, I'm not saying we won't change at all, I just don't think the basic fiber of the country will.
