Swann is a charismatic, eloquent speaker who can appeal to the Reagan Democrats and Soccer Moms without angering the GOP base.

My mom, a die-hard Democrat who lives in the Philly suburbs, will be voting for Swann this year because of Act 72. I bet she'll be the only woman with a Lois Murphy, Bob Casey and Lynn Swann sign on her lawn. Smiley

Where does she live in suburban Philly? (PA-6 I'm guessing Wink)

She lives in PA-6, the home of two consecutive 51%-49% House races.

Glad to see she's voting for Lois!  I met a few of her staffers, but not her yet.  Why would anyone vote for Lynn Swann?  He is a stupid sports commentator with no experience.  This looks like Arnold Part Deux.

She's angry at him over the casinos and the cuts in Medicaid. In their attempts to reach out to fiscal conservatives, Bredesen and Rendell have alienated poor seniors and people with a social conscience.

However, if we are talking 'a high disapproval and it's close to his approval' situation what about your idol Rick Santorum?

1) What does that have to do with anything? When you lose you need to resort to this? Typical.

2) Up until the beginning of last year, Santorum had some of the best approval ratings and lowest disapprovals.

3) I've admitted that my political idol will have a very tough challenge and, at this point, is likely to lose. I fail to see your point here except maybe trying to distract attention when you get cranky and can't argue.

I think that Rendell and Santorum's polling situations are comparable although obviously their campaigns in Pennsylvania will be different.  Your point about Santorum is fair, but I wish people were not constantly accusing each other on this fourm of losing arguments.  Our viewpoints obviously do not coincide, but my own view is formed from my own personal perspective and is no less right or wrong than yours.  I'm trying to be fair...

How am I trying to distract the attention away from discussion?  You took me up on a point I had made because you misunderstood what I said.  I said that if Rendell was running ads and losing by 45%-43% and had almost equal numbers of people saying they approved and disapproved of him, he was in trouble.  My argument backs yours up then.

You wanted to turn it into an attack on Santorum. You called me out, another poster even noticed it, and then you were proven wrong again. I could care less about your Rendell argument at this point. When you want to me make this a "Gotcha!" type of discussion then I'll point out that you lost.

No. He's pretty much a fool that has been propped up by the White House to run against Rendell. Pennsylvania is still a huge target for Republicans because they think they can turn this state red.

I don't believe this poll at all. From all I've heard from Republicans in this area, there are some Swann fans, but most are not excited by him at all. I'm shocked Swann is polling this high and I just do not see it. Swann is just not going to do it, and after he gets beaten in the debates by Rendell...more people will begin to realize that.

How so? Under Rendell, the rolls of Pennsylvania's medicaid program have actually increased by hundreds of thousands of seniors, reversing a long standing decline.

Perception is 99% of reality. There are voters like my mother  that believe Rendell has unfairly slashed Medicaid.

Hmmm... I just got an e-mail from the Swann campaign.  I guess Zogby has Swann and Rendell tied 43.3-43.9, in favor of Rendell.

While I support Swann, and I expect it to be close, I would be very surprised if Swann is leading at this point.

Well, it's Zogby.

It's way too early to pay too much attention to these things.

Zogby poll aside, Swann is polling better than any other Republican in PA and frankly pretty much higher than most any of us thought he would be right now.  If he can be a decent candiate and be clear on the issues he has a real shot at this.

It could actually be Swann ahead by 99% due to Zogby.

My criticism is more of Zogby.  Swann has the potential of sweeping every county outside of the SE and denting Rendell in Phila.  He can win this, but I wouldn't favor any candidate at this point.

PA should just drop off the map, it would save a lot of forum space.

Chris Matthews is reason enough to wiped the Keystone State off the map.

Rasmussen seems to be a bit off its rocker lately, slanting to either Democrats or Republicans.  Let's wait and see...

Does anyone know how much support Swann is getting from African Americans in the poll?  That could help to explain his strong number.
