Shes in a real tight spot. She has expressed concerns but will wait and see. She voted for the filibustered nominees after the agreement of the gang of 14. Voted for Roberts.

Dobson has threatened to lay siege on her if she steps out of lie in 2008. The left wants her to be a democrat. so what does she do. I think she has to vote yes.

Vote no unless her vote won't matter either way.

Yes, she should vote yes. Alito needs to get onto the court.

If I was her I'd vote yes. Her approvals seem poor compared to Vitter's. It would be another stake through my heart were Louisiana to have two Republican Senators. Nothing seems sacred from the party of Abe Lincoln any more Sad. She has an uphill battle for re-election. She can't afford to pander to liberal interest groups and nor should she

Vote No.  What is the point of being re-elected if you're just voting for the same destructive policies your Republican replacement would support?

What in that article insinuates that Landrieu is under heavy siege?

That said, I wish people would vote what they think is best for their constituents as opposed to what is best politically.  So while that also means that all 100 should vote yes, that's not gonna happen.  But it's sad to see the nation take a backseat to politics.

You think Alito serves the interests of the majority of the constituents in every state?

Tough call and I've thought about it the same way Boss Tweed did.  In MANY states, you need a huge balck turnout to win as a Democrat and that is no longer the case in LA, but then again Bobby Jindal's district took a hard hit from Katrina as well.  Landrieu's 2008 chances lie largely on how New Orleans will be repopulated.

She shouldn't cave just because that joke FEMA made all the blacks leave for Republican political gain.

She should vote for him, since he's a good choice for the Supreme Court.

So everyone on Kos is crying "P.O.S." to Landrieu's latest comment - that she would vote against a filibuster, leading to comments like these:

"   Flames. On the side of my face.... (none / 1)
Honestly, if there weren't actual real Americans on the Gulf Coast who are suffering and in need right now, I would be actively hoping that this woman never gets one dime of federal money for anything at all ever again. What a...I don't have any words, even."

"Landrieu's statement smells for all the world like Bush operatives are extorting her neutrality with threats of denying funding to the reconstruction of NOLA.  The denial of housing funding might have been the shot across the bow."

"What Harry Reed needs to say to Mary Landrieu... (4.00 / 4)
'You will vote no to Alito. And you will support any filibuster we choose to launch. If you fail to do either of these two things, we will spend $5m to defeat you in the next primary. Understand this, Mary, if you're not with us, WE WILL DESTROY YOU.'"

Keep it up, people! Have fun winning back the Senate!

hahaha . . . thanks Rice.  Just another perfect example of how the two parties cannot adequately meet the needs of the people.  If she thinks he will serve the nation well, even though he might be conservative, then she needs to vote for him.  If her "party" has a problem with that, they just have to accept the fact that she is doing her duty to serve her states interests, not her party's interests.  (And yes, the same goes for republicans.)

What good is the Senate if you bastards have crazy activist conservatives controlling the SCOTUS? The SCOTUS is more important.

Memo to Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA)

Want to be re-elected?  Vote yes on Alito.

What?  A U.S. Senator voting in the way they think will get them votes back home?  What is that place coming to?

He is.  Smiley  But I have the discretion to point out his flawed comments from time to time.  Smiley
