I'll worry when Swann's consistently 7 or 8 points clear

I'm still undecided on this one, I'll make up my mind when I see if Swann's for real or not.

FYI, Strategic Vision is a partisan GOP pollster.

He was in the past.  If I recall correctly, at one time he only polled for GOP candidates.

Yep.  Then in 2004, we saw these polls appearing on their site with an independent look.  For the most part, they were still considered GOP on most sites (a wise move, imo).

Of course, the election is the true decider.  In 2004, they did extremely well in the South, leaned GOP in the Upper Midwest.

We'll see what the future holds, but I'm still not clear as to affliation.  I'm going to call them (I/R) and see how they place in the 2006 elections.

Or maybe I'll just do this:

FYI, Strategic Vision is a partisan GOP pollster.

As a factual matter, SV is not a Republican pollster. Period.

Now, if you want to talk about their polls having a structural bias in favor of Republicans, that's fine (though I don't think they really do). SUSA leans Democratic at times for structural reasons. But to claim SV is "partisan" is simply incorrect.

AuH2O,

Last time I checked, Strategic Vision was still considered a Republican-affiliated pollster.  It was openly in 2004.

SV is a GOP pollster looking to get a solid media rep and become one of the party aligned pollsters who can also do credible media polls.  They had a decent 2004, mostly good, slight GOP bias in places and only one major error as I recall.

You would be a fool to forget they work primarily for the GOP.  You would also be a fool to toss their numbers just because they ear most of their money now working for one party's candidates.

In any case, I look at these numbers and say "Statistical dead heat."

They work for mostly GOP candidates because that's who was familiar with their earlier work as a partisan firm.

My point isn't that we have to take SV as gospel, I just think a poll should not be qualified as 'partisan' without evidence.

Has SUSA had actual ties to the Democrats??  If so when??

Startegic Vision we KNOW was an actual GOP pollster during the 2004 election.  Now they may be trying to become an Independent pollster, but that doesn't change the fact that they were very recentley a partisan pollster ala Democrocy Corps.

When did they un-affiliate?

They were Republican in 2004.

All within the margin of error though. Rendell is likely a bit up here, Swann's just getting a novelty bounce.

SV was NOT a GOP pollster during 2004 in that they were not running polls paid for by the Republican national committee.  What they did do is work as the internal pollster for many GOP candidates.  The majority of their published polls were done solely for media release to try and build their reputation.

It is proper to ID them as a Republican pollster since they work so heavily for one party.  That does not invalidate them.  It also does not mean they only release polls that show one result.  There are several pollsters with affiliations to both sides that are highly respected.  Strategic Vision is trying to join them.
