I'm an optimist. I tend to try and see the good in myself and in other people.

I'm an optimist.  Pessimism generally becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Generally an optimist, but a cautious one.  I make absolutely sure that something is, in fact, going according to plan before I begin to rest easy.  I much prefer staying on edge until I know I can relax to relaxing too soon and facing a horrible shock.

I tend to be pessimistic regarding political stuff, though.

Optimist, of course.  There may be some rather hopeless situations out there, but I always try to see the good in everything, or what can be done to make a bad situation better.

Plus, optimists just feel better most of the time.  Pessimists are often miserable, depressing people (NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE!!!).

Pessimism is often what is known as a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Positive things can only happen if people truly believe in them enough to work at them and make them happen.  If you believe that all positive things are unfulfillable, you will then not have the will to pursue them and your prediction will, obviously, come true.

Sad Sad Sad Pessimist emo obviously Sad Sad Sad

Anyway, though the obvious answer for me is true, there's more shades of grey than some would think.  I'm more pessimistic with generalities than specifics.  For instance, I can make a huge moralistic, fatalistic diatribe about how the prevalence of rap and other morally lacking music will lead to an utter degradation in the morals of today's youth, leading to destruction of society as we know it under the soon-to-be-rampant pandemics of drug use, bastardry, and miscellaneous sexual debauchery, but yet I usually have a positive opinion of specific peers.

I’m a pessimist, but it doesn’t work that way for me, I give it my all while saying “it isn’t going to work.”  You see, I don’t think all positive things are impossible or whatever, just that I won’t be able to do them because of my general bad luck.  Once I convince myself that it is going to go badly, things can either a) go exactly how I knew they would, or b) surprise me in a good way.  I find that this way I’m always being pleasantly surprised, and I’m more happy most of the time Smiley

Me, too!  Or lose an election, or miss something I really want to do or see, and I convince myself that it's going to happen, so that way I can't be disappointed!

w0rd to that s1r.

Since I've started looking at the brighter side of life, and started enjoying time with my friends I've generally become more an optimist.  I really think it is a matter of who you are around.  Being around people with little or no outlook on life, or lack some positive perspectives brings you down.
