Is anybody on the forum, seriously considering wanting to rise to one of these posts in their life?

Certainly. I would like to be all of these, but I would suspect a Governor to president line. I would love any of these, though, Im not picky. Smiley

Unless I were really foolish... I don't think I'd want to run. I enjoy it, but the fact is, I'm overweight, an agnostic, and I'm not "mainstream" enough... Besides, why would I go from doing a job I love, and people seem to love me, with excellent pay (My acting work) to a job that would be nothing but an overpaid paper pusher that half of the populous (State or nationally) hates?

Doesn't make sense to me.

I want to represent, but I do not want to live in DC. I would like to be a councilman or a state rep. That is plenty.

I have no desire for any elected position -if I had such a hard time of it doing canvassing work on behalf of WashPIRG in Seattle (from which I was eventually fired), I likely would fare even worse if I were running for elected office.  Sorry, but because I hate canvassing, I likely would hate campaigning even worse.

I would love to be an elected official someday. I doubt I'd run as a Libertarian though.

I'd like to be a Senator and I probably will run for some political office later in my life.

I'd love to serve in public office.

But the Asian political glass ceiling is basically the House for the foreseeable future, so I'm destined for congress at best Smiley

I guess I would like to be a Mayor or State Senator. I would not make a good U.S. President or Senator, i'm sure of that. I trust people too much.

I don't see it as likely, but I'd like to run.  Highest I would voluntarily choose would be Governor.  Representative would possibly be fun.  And sadly, I might also do like Bacon King and go to another party.

Being a UK resident I doubt I'd ever make it to be Prime Minister, but a cabinet level job or being First Minister of Scotland would be nifty:)

I'm going to try my hand at entering local politics next year.

I'd like to be foreign minister, maybe, but only if I was an Independent. I'd never be a politican for Labor or the Liberals.

You should move to Washington.  They're fine with Asians there. Wink

Myself, no, I can't see myself in any elected position.  I simply despise the concept of my life and decisions being evaluated by a hundred thousand people twenty-four hours a day.

It's my intention, if selected by the Labour Party, to run for Durham City Council next year. Great shame, given the Lib Dem woes of now, that the election isn't May 2006

I don't think so, actually...
Asians are actually winning House seats where the Asian population is fairly small. Compare Blacks - from 2000 to 2004 there was exactly one Black person in congress not representing a district over or close to 50% Black* (Julia Carson. Although that figure increased fourfold in 2004 with the election of Barack Obama, Emmanuel Cleaver and Gwen Moore. Cool )
White-Asian sexual relations are also considered far more normal than White-Black ones. Yes, there is some anti-Asian racism, but I don't consider it impossible for an Asian politician to go far in US politics. Even all the way to the top, if they've amassed sufficient expertise before.

*actually, that's not quite true. California's Black delegation represents districts where Blacks outnumber Anglo Whites, but are far from a majority. But they're helped by a) lower Mexican citizenship rates b) lower Mexican turnout c) less Mexican aversity to voting for Blacks than Whites seem to have d) incumbency, in areas where the Black share of the population used to be higher.

Its crossed my mind in the past, but actually breaking through the door is very, very difficult.

Example:  People have been waiting in line for years to run for county council in my district.
