Let's assume that Jack Kemp had won the 1988 Republican Primaries and went on to choose Sen. Bob Dole of Kansas as his VP.  The Democratic ticket stays the same.  Who would win?  Maps?

Yeah, that idea about returning to the Gold-standard would have won a lot of votes.

:-(

Why Super, why.

Jack Kemp is my ideological mentor.  He is one of the greatest men to serve in Congress and serve our Party as its Vice-Presidential nominee.

Sorry, I just find him to be entirely unimpressive.

I think Kemp/Dole could take OR, WA (Which was sending Slade Gorton back to the Senate that year), and possibly WV.

This election would have been closer than George HW Bush v Dukakis, however, Kemp wins.  In the final analysis, Dukakis would not have won in 1988 against any reasonable Republican candidate.

Kemp/Dole               309
Dukakis/Bentsen      229

Yeah, that idea about returning to the Gold-standard would have won a lot of votes.

1.Why would that be a bad thing?
2.Most Americans know very little about economics-it really wouldn't phase a lot of them over.
3.It actually might help him, if he ran under the same "limited government" platform Reagan ran on.
