http://www.rasmussenreports.com/2006/State%20Polls/February%202006/California%20Governor%20February.htm

Schwarzenegger 40
Angelides 41

Schwarzenegger 39
Westly 34

Given Arnold's approval rating is only 41%, the Democrats definitely need a better candidate.

Nah, it just shows low name recognition on both parts. Arnold's reeleciton umbers are about identical to his ratings, so when the campaign starts, the undecideds will break heavily against him.

Huh?

You really think people are paying attention to a governor's race 9 months before the election? You really think the average Californian voter can tell you one thing about either Dem candidate?

That's true but neither of them are that great of candidiates.  I still think Arnold will  be defeated, but it will be closer than many people think.

I can't say to be perfectly honestly, but from what I've read neither of them are overly inspiring.

Earlier polls showed rather high name recognition for both Democrats.  I haven't seen the internals of this (they won't load at school), but what are their name recognitions here?

44% had no opinion of Angelides and 57% had no opinion of Westly.

The funny thing is that last poll had Westly doing better than Angelides.

Go Angelides!

Given Arnold's approval rating is only 41%, the Democrats definitely need a better candidate.

In both polls, Schwarzenegger's support is lower than his approval rating.  That means that there are some people who approve of Schwarzenegger, but who still aren't committed to voting for him.

Coupled with the fact that Schwarzenegger has been governor for two or three years, while his opponents are not very well known, I think that this is bad news for Arnold, not good news.

But.... An incumbent down 40-41 against an unknown is good news.....
